SEPTEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

We will officially be celebrating the last holiday for the summer. Labor Day, which celebrates the American labor movement, and honors all of us worker bees

It also happens to be my birthday month so extra celebration for me.

Well readers, what are you reading? Please share, don't be shy. It does not matter the Genre, this is a judgement free zone.  From the classics to romance novels, murder mysteries, to thrillers.

We enjoy it all.

Re: SEPTEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I just finished the latest Will Trent book by Karin Slaughter, After That Night.  It didn't disappoint, and if you're a Will Trent fan of course it's a must.  Amanda plays less of a role in this one as Will, Faith and Sara try to get to the bottom of a crime on their own.

I don't recommend this book if you're not already familiar with the characters.  In my opinion, the Will Trent books need to be read in order.  And now I have to wait for her to write the next one.....

Re: SEPTEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I recently finished The Paris Daughter by Kristin Harmel and loved it.    I am currently reading one of her earlier works The Book of Lost Names.

Lately I have been drawn to WWii  historical fiction.  This year I also read  Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck which I read has been made into a movie with Kristin Scott Thomas.  I enjoyed that one and loved  Beyond that, the Sea by Laura Spense-Ash.

Next on my list is The Winter Orphans, also WWii unless a biography/memoir catches my eye!

@icezeus , happy birthday month to you!

James Lee Burke has a new book out called Flags on the. Bayou.  This is a stand alone book, not the Dave Robichaux series.  I am about 150 pages in.  It has been awhile since I have read one of his so his style of writing stands out to me...as a bit overdone in the early stages but it sets the scene for the story.

I am looking forward to Stephen King's new book Holly out on Sept 5.

@maisiebrook , WWII historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. I loved The Book of Lost Names.   I dabble in my ancestry and it's so amazing to me to learn that people have their pasts completely dissolved and no way to find out where they came from. My generation is so fortunate, and we don't always realize it. Beyond That, the Sea is on my TBR list.

Re: SEPTEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Romantic Comedy, by Curtis Sittenfeld.  Well I gave this book my best shot but after reading it half way I jumped to the epilogue to see if the two main characters had a happily ever after.   This book takes place on a show called The Night Owls (TNO) which is based exactly like Saturday Night Life.  Including that the writers/actors were not even born when it began.  Pre-covid airings to shut down then to a new life in 2023.  I found the book just plain boring.  Way too many holds on it for me to continue reading even though I can keep it until Sept. 8.  Taking back to the library today so the next Patron can have it for the holiday weekend.  Thank goodness it is finally September 1st and football coming.

Happy Birthday @icezeus

I am just about done with EVERYONE HERE IS LYING. I can't praise this book enough. I have a hard time putting it down. Perfect writing, and the characters are real. You won't regret reading this book. On the other hand I just could not finish ABOUT GRACE,or JOE HILLS book of short stories. I hate to buy a book and not finish it,but sometimes there is no choice. I might read one of them in bed and hope it puts me to sleep 😆

@Carolina925

Happy Birthday month to you as well. One of the reasons why I enjoy this thread so much, are the suggestions and recommendations from other readers.  Left to my own devices I would stick with the same authors that I am comfortable with and hardly venture out of my reading box.
