I recommend reading a very complete article in Rolling Stone:

Snubbing the King: Why Don’t Big Stars Want to Perform at Charles’ Coronation?

About the Christmas gift, that was over 3 years ago, Harry and Meaghan had moved to Montecito 4 months earlier, she sent the gift to Oprah and Oprah didn't call her a Duchess, she did use the emoji.  Sue her, I guess.  Oprah had more recently expressed hope that the family would find healing, I had read nothing about her wishing the monarchy to end.  Making mountains our of moehills is what tabloids do.

From  your cited Rolling Stone article:

But before people had a chance to reconcile their feelings about Andrew, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle publicly announced that they were stepping down from royal duties. In the years since, Harry and Markle have levied several accusations against the royal family and the UK press, claiming their respective treatment of Markle led to fears for her mental and physical health. The discourse and growing divide between the couple and the Institution has been well documented in Harry’s 2023 tell-all memoir Spare and the couple’s Netflix series Harry and Meghan...anyone performing at the show would have to consider whether there would be a backlash from appearing amongst their fans.  Royalism is a dirty idea. Meg, head of a leading British music PR company, notes that both Styles and Adele are at points in their careers where they need to define themselves beyond a successful decade in music.

Yes it does mention Andrew - but Andrew has been a problem for years - but not for the music stars - until now.    There's also talk about how outdated the monarchy is and how it's bad to spend money on the Coronation when people are having a hard time.

And yet - again, the monarchy is only outdated - when it comes to Charles and William apparently.  Meghan and Harry are touted for "stepping down" from royal duties - yet they still want the titles and the fame of being "royal."

So just stop with the hypocrisy.

The Rolling Stone article is written to give the wider perspective from the performers' point of view which, unfortunately, has been cherry picked here for a clanging bell argument.

It's a good article, worth the time to understand why professionals are guarded about their careers which often happens anytime there is a scandal that could affect a potential contract. It's simply information I thought could be read without getting defensive.  I'm sorry that wasn't the case.

Here's the link with spaces: rollingstone.com/music/music-features/   king-charles-coronation-big-stars-not-performing-   adele-harry-styles-1234688981/

I feel a bit bad for Charles having these difficulties after having waited so long for this high event and needing to keep the monarchy relevant after Elizabeth's passing, her being so loved, he not so much.  It's just the way it is.  He's smart to focus the procedures of it with family involvement rather than royalty.  How it plays out will be the best they all can do.

Thanks for the link to the article! 🙂 An interesting read and the view held by PR people in the industry makes sense with all the scandals involving the RF in the past few years.

Personally, I think icons like Elton John declining to appear because he's in the middle of a tour is a nice way of saying no way jose. LOL He was close with Diana and may still harbor some ill-will towards KC.
