I was thinking - what is one of my favorite books that was made into a movie that is just as good.  And I say, "one of my favorite" as I have many favorites, is "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold.  I loved the book and the movie too.  Do you have one?

One book that comes to mind is The Shining. What I really appreciate about this book and the movie is that they each offer something extra that the other form does not include. They complement each other beautifully.

I can’t think of a movie that’s better than the book, but To Kill a Mockingbird comes closest for me. 

And I agree with @Judaline about Gone with the Wind, especially because the book was so long and the movie had to be condensed.

One of my favorite books- In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. The original movie with Robert Blake was terrific.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks-- great movie when you need a good cry.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis-- very nice moive adaptations. Beautiful visuals. I actually enjoyed all three of the movies.
