Hello everyone!  I write a blog about books and wanted to plan a post about books to read in October- basically books with a fall theme or Halloween or spooky feel.  Do you all have any suggestions?

so far I thought of:

haunting of hill house by Shirley jackson

dracula

frankenstein

halloween tree by ray bradbury

legend of sleepy hollow by Washington Irving

I have never read any Steven king, but surely there is a good scary one by him?

i want to pick a few books to put on my to be read list for the month.  I am sure that there are other ghost supernatural or witch stories that you all can suggest for me.

@rissajaneen  If you haven't read anything by Stephen King you are in for a treat.  I never read any of his work until about five years ago.  I thought he was all about horror.  He is a master storyteller, now one of my favorite authors.

check out the Mr Mercedes trilogy (which was my first read of his), The Outsider, Duma Key, The Institute and many more.  Enjoy discovering Stephen King.  LM

Try Stephen King's Salems Lot-its an older book. I read it ages ago but it scared the pants off me!

Specific titles aren't coming to mind at the moment but my library system does 'book lists' on their blog with different topics. If yours does the same maybe you can do a search to see what has been suggested before on this theme.

@abbalulu , there was a tv series I streamed based on The Outsider.  It was true to the book and the acting was top notch.  If you have read the book, watch it!  I am going to get Salem's Lot based on your comments.

OP, pls excuse the side discussion!  Happy reading.  LM

"Pet Sematary" by Stephen King. One of this scariest books.

@LilysmomI have read the Outsider (love Holly Gibney) She is in King's newest If It Bleeds which has four short stories and one of the stories is devoted to her. I will look for the Outsider except we don't have Netflix if that is where you saw it.

I consider Salems Lot to be more horror than supernatural but there is that too. All I can remember is I read it about 30 years ago and it has stayed with me as one of the scariest books I ever read for some reason.

I'll bet you're sorry that gardening season is winding down.

Stephen King's The Shining is the ultimate scary book. (And the movie is the ultimate scary movie. The book and movie, while covering the same ground, do it in different ways--so they complement each other. It is totally brilliant.)
