I would suggest you sign on with Goodreads if you haven't already. You can get many good ideas for a favorite genre from that site.
Some of my favorites are: Sandra Brown, Harlan Coben, Cat Coulter, Joseph Finder, Lisa Scottoline, Alex Kava, Brad Thor, JA Jance, Steve Martini, and my all-time favorite is Daniel Silva.
Good luck in your searches.

@Novemberbaby3, my mother reads all the authors you mentioned, and she reads fast. One you didn't mention that she loves is Catherine Coulter. Another is Lisa Scottoline.
But I had to post recently asking for new ideas since she reads so quickly and @yahooey suggested John Lutz. He's not new but I'd never come across him and he's written a ton of books. She loved him (at least his first book, and part of his second).
Hope that helps, fun to give back, I get so much here!

I recommend all Daniel Silva's books, but read them in the order they were written, this way you can really appreciate how his character, Gabriel Allon, develops. They are all excellent.
David Baldacci, Michael Connelly and Jonathan Kellerman are also favorites.
