My favorite book of 2023:

"Life in the Pits" A Surgeons Awakening"

By Nicholas P. T. Maxwell.  He is a new author and it was just published in November.

He has been a surgeon at our local hospital for 30" years.  He did my " Port" surgery right before Thanksgiving.  Such a wonderful person.

My next book will  "BEDE'S BOOK." It was written by her daughter.   BEDE was my Algebra teacher in 1964.  I can't wait to start reading it.

Re: My favorite books of 2023

Not sure when I read these books (could be prior to 2023), but I enjoyed

Bad Blood (about the downfall of Theranos; I live in Silicon Valley, so this was of particular interest to me)

Empire of Pain (about the Sackler family; oxycontin)

The Testaments (follow up to The Handmaid's Tale)

I'm on a quest to read banned books.  Many of them are YA, which is a genre I don't care for.  I trying to make my way through 1984 now (have never read it before).  Easy to put down, hard to pick back up.

@Calgal2too The Empire of Pain has been floating on my possible read list for a few years now. Glad to hear you enjoyed it, as it looks like our taste in books may align a bit.

Currently reading Margaret Atwood's 2023 short stories offering Old Babes in the Wood. So far, so good as a short stories and Atwood fan. Thanks for posting your favs.
