Read aloud "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!" The language is wonderful and the descriptions are so vivid and evocative of the region, the season and life in that time.
You can also get wonderful recorded versions to listen to as well! Turn the lights down, light the fireplace if you have one, get a hot beverage and a cozy throw and be in for a real treat!

Thanks for such a terrific idea. I don't care much for Halloween and all the glutinous candy encouragement . Thanks for a nice suggestion for a new tradition with my grandson.

Thank you for your suggestion. I don't know why I never read his book "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." I was raised in Oklahoma where he once made his trek through Indian Territory and where he, supposedly, slept on my grandparent's land. Today, two areas/boat ramps are named after him, Washington Irving North and Washington Irving South in the same vacinity as their land.

Great idea!
People from the metropolitan NY area: The Town of Irvington does it up big every Halloween. Every year they have a parade, which was yesterday, for adults and children. There are all kinds of activities for kids and/or adults including a "headless horseman."
I have family that lives nearby and goes, they love it.
Tarrytown also celebrates but not as big as Irvington.
Wonderful book. Beautiful area.
