Re: May 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I'm in the final pages of The Memory of Lavender and Sage by Aimie K Runyan and don't want it to end. The main character, the black sheep of her family, loses her very rich father who left nothing more than her mother's "estate". She takes the money and buys a manor house in a small village in Provence, the place her mother grew up. The village doesn't accept her and she trudges through that. It's just a thoroughly enjoyable read.

I finished  Everyone Here is Lying. I thought is was really good, and the storyline kept me interested. All of the characters were "something else".. I have read most of Shari Lapena's books and have really liked them.

Not sure what I will read next...Maybe another Colleen Hoover.

Finished Clear by Carys Davies this afternoon. She is such a gifted writer and my second book read this month by the author.

The story follows a minister sent to a remote island off Scotland to "clear" the last inhabitant during the final stages of the infamous Scottish Clearances.

Today I finished It Had to Be You by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke.  I really liked this book and recommend the entire "Under Suspicion" series.  I wonder how many more books will be published since Clark died in 2020.

Re: May 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I am half way through A Calamity of Souls by David Baldacci.  It is so much like the John Grisham legal stories that I had to go back and check the author.  It is highly rated at 4.58/5* on Goodreads but I find these stories so predictable it becomes boring...indigent disadvantaged defendant, hopeless case...you know what I mean.  I will keep going since it is so highly rated.

I've got two, but that would get us into "political" and not going there.

Re: May 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Just went through NYT Best sellers of NonFiction.  I checked to see what my library had.  I'll go up there maybe tomorrow.  Three on my list, they don't have.  Some I'll need to wait on.  I'll see how I do with what I get at the library.  There can be a mix tho, not just NF.  I want to see if the list on here, matches any I've just looked up today.

[ Edited ]

Last night, I was able to finish Piece Of My Heart by Mary Higgins Clark & Alafair Burke.  This is part of the Under Suspicion Series, #7. I gave the book 3.5/5 Stars. Although with the Goodreads systems you cannot give 1/2 stars. I did enjoyed the book, but in this book there were two mysteries to be solved. It's hard to pull off without one story being short changed. I felt one of the stories did not live up to it's full potential.

I am now on to read 'The Giver of Stars" which was a recommendation from one of the posters on our thread.

@sandy53

I thought the series wold end since Mary Higgins Clark Died. However, I have just finished a book that was published I believe after she died. Although, it's quite possible that the book was in the works.

It had to be you was published this year, well after her death. So I am hopeful that Alafair Burke will keep it going.
