I've been tearing my way through MC Beaton's Poor Relations series during my trial of Audible Escapes and the books are loads of fun.
This is a series of 6 Regency period romance novels about a group of "poor relations," people who are of noble birth, but so low on the list that they have no inheritance and survive on what their rich relatives deign to give them. They are poor starving, but it would be seen as shameful for them to get jobs and work as tradespeople.
Several of these poor relations band together to start a hotel, naming it the Poor Relations, thinking their wealthy relatives would be so ashamed they would buy the place out and support the family. Things do not go to plan.
The series of six novels each focuses on one of the main characters and his or her part in making things work for the group, who range in age from 30-70. They each must use their wits to turn the worst of circumstances in their favor and do so with humor and adventure. I recommend them.
The books are all relatively short and it's taken me under 3 weeks to finish the series.

I'm willing to give her other (non-Agatha Raisin) books a try! I've really enjoyed Beaton's writing.
