Re: MAY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

@CANDLEQUEEN does Criss Cross have anything to do with Christmas? My DH wanted me to reserve another James Patterson book for him, but he thinks it might be the one where Alex is sent to a Christmas Eve family disturbance. I said I think this isn't that book.

I finished Small Mercies (Dennis Lehane)

The plot was fast paced, and I thought the author  did a great job of developing characters.

This morning I began Lisa Scottoline's Loyalty, which is set during the rise of the Mafia in Sicily.

Moonrise Over New Jessupby Jamila Minnicks

It's 1957, and after leaving the only home she has ever known, Alice Young steps off the bus into the all-Black town of New Jessup, Alabama, where residents have largely rejected integration as the means for Black social advancement.  There are no "back doors or doors only" for the town's people.  Alice as never seen anything like it in her young years and wants to give her heart to this new home.  New Jessup embraces just separate and as for generations of this town.

Alice falls in love with one of the son's of the founding fathers and his secret ideals is to create separate but equal.  The residents of New Jessup are now dealing with the young generation not wanting or living in the old ways.

Re: MAY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I finished listening to Minka Kelly's memoir, Tell Me Everything.   It was well written and she laid her feelings and heart out for the reader.  She lived a challenging, abusive life.  She takes you through what happened, how she is trying to heal from it, and lessons learned.   I highly recommend it.  EVERYONE can learn something from it, imo.

I just started  listening to Runaway Love by Melanie Harlow.

@Judaline  I think she wasn't feeling well and never returned. I hope she is recovering and comes back.

Re: MAY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Today I finished On the Line by Fern Michaels.  This is a new book (March 2023), not part of any series, and only 276 pages.  It is the story of a New York chef who is suffering from mercury poisoning.  Then it shifts to the backstory of the chef, his family, cartels, and escape.  The last part of the book is again about solving the poisoning mystery with some romance included.  I thought it was a good book and recommend it for a good, quick read.  It's not deep or complex.  It is G-rated if that is important to you.

I am reading Shannon Bream's books, Women of the Bible Speak, Mother and Daughters of the Bible Speak, and Love Stories of the Bible Speak.I love learning these stories in context and I think learning them in one place and not searching through the many chapters and psalms to follow just one story makes it easier to read.Ms. Bream has done an excellent amount of research in order to acquaint us with the Bible. She also includes study questions which make these books an excellent resource for a book club discussion.

Good to know, @Jazzycat1 .   What a massive research job that must have been.   But can well believe that Shannon Bream was up to it.
