I am reading this right now.  Very clever and very well written.  And a real representation of the 1950-60 era especially for women.  I'm almost half way through and enjoying very much.

Re: Lessons in Chemistry

[ Edited ]

I am watching the series made from the book on Apple TV. People who have read the book have some Cons but I am enjoying Brie Larson in the lead. The book is almost always better than the adaptation for screen.

From the net:

“Lessons in Chemistry” is a captivating novel by Bonnie Garmus, published by Doubleday in April 2022. The story revolves around Elizabeth Zott, a chemist who, after being fired from her job, becomes a beloved cooking show host in 1960s Southern California. The novel delves into themes of resilience, creativity, and the challenges faced by women in male-dominated fields.

I've thought about getting this book from the library, but it has a long waiting list. I've read popular books that I found disappointing. The more a book is hyped, the less I'm interested, although there are exceptions.. Just because a book is a best seller doesn't mean I'll like it. Haven't decided about this book yet.

I really enjoyed this book. I am another reader that tends to find books that are hyped up, not to be that great. This was an exception and I rated the book 5/5 stars via Goodreads.

I consider it one of my best reads for 2023.

I wrote a review in our October thread of "What are you reading now".

I read it back when it came out at the end March of '22 and just adored it.  Like @icezeus I left a review in the April 2022 book thread. Great book.

I loved the book and recommended to many others. My sister and I were reading it at the same time when we were on a trip last year and we both laughed out loud at certain places.

And I am loving the series on Apple TV too! It is based on the book, not identical, I think it is a great adaptation. I look forward to Friday nights when the next episode drops.

Like others, I don't always like the movie/tv adaptation as well as the book but this is an exception for me.
