@millieshops I didn't say it was better. It's my book source of choice. Our local library is SO not up to the standards of the library when I moved here from Torrance in Southern California. But I'm happy with all the choices I have on Amazon.

Yes indeed, I have had it for years and I love it. I love that it offers me books from authors and genres I would not have read if I had to pay for the books. It's the biggest library in the world. There are new books generally not books by well known authors that just came out.

@Love my grandkids   Thank you.   Because of my snowbird life, I had access to two countywide library systems, so my choices are massive.

I did have Prime some years ago and there were a few free downloads, but I wasn't excited with many of the books at that time.

Re: Kindle Unlimited?

[ Edited ]

I actually cancelled my subscription earlier this morning, I have three books to read by March 14th, lol.  (I've had the service for well over a year now)

When on vacation I read three books a week sitting by the pool but when home, I'm lucky if I read one book a month so it was not worth it to me.  The authors I read usually go on sale here and there anywhere from 99 cents to $4.99 at most so it is quite a savings that adds up over the year.

New titles are not offered with Unlimited and not all authors, especially the popular ones, are not in the subscription service.

If you have Prime, you can get books through prime reading for free and a lot if not most of the titles are also in Unlimited.

And, as other people have stated, your local library has a ton of ebooks available for download.

Also, join bookbub.  On bookbub they have lots of free books and I have found many authors/genres I would have never tried and enjoy

Love Bookbub! I found tons of freebies through them and explored new authors.
