Re: JULY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I just finished Danielle Steel's latest novel, PALAZZO, which was good.  A typical romance, set in one of my favorite cities.  I love anything set in Venice.

I am currently reading the new David Rosenfelt mystery, FLOP DEAD GORGEOUS, which is very funny.  I aways enjoy his humor.

Next up is Miranda James' new cat mystery, HISS ME DEADLY, then I am looking forward to the new Linda Castillo Amish mystery, AN EVIL HEART, which comes out next Tuesday.

@Oznell - I read THE ESCAPE ARTIST too and thought it was good.  I rarely read non-fiction, but thought this was well done.  What a remarkable escape.

Re: JULY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

@dmod nj  I was intrigued by your description of Famous in a Small Town by Viola Shipman and I put it on waitlist.  I see this author has a lot of books, and this is the newest, so maybe this isn't the best one to start with.  What do you think?

Then I noticed you called the author a he, so I had to look up Viola Shipman.  What a surprise to discover it is a pen name and it actually is a he.

@smoky22

Viola Shipman is really Wade Rouse.  He uses his grandmother's name.  I have read The Heirloom Garden and The Hope Chest and hope to read more.

@dawg lover ,  oh, good to know-- another fan of "The Escape Artist"!   I was so impressed also with what he and his friend managed to do.

Re: JULY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

How would I know if a book carried you away to another place in time or absorbed your attention completely if you don't say so here?  Thanks to those who take a minute to share.  When I'm here, I'm on the hunt for that. All of the reviews are easy to sort through and I appreciate everyone's efforts.

I've started the 3rd and last The Magpies series by Mark Edwards.  Not the best books I've read lately but here I am caught up to see how it all ends, will the psychotic person be found and punished?  Will the primary victim cease their relentless pursuit or ruin their life trying?  And just how many more mistakes can they make in the trying?  I have to know.

Re: JULY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

@smoky22   I have not read any books written under his real name, Wade Rouse. I, too,  was surprised the first time someone mentioned Viola to me and said, "He writes fabulous books that take place in  Michigan."

You can really start with any of them.  The one book  I did not enjoy the first time I started it was, The Clover Girls.   I went back a second time and read it. It was okay.

I've loved all the rest of them.

There is an old fashionedness to his stories.   He describes his home state so well, I would love to go to Michigan and see it all.......not only the touristy things, but all the little, local  ins and outs.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

@dmod nj   thanks for the response.  I had to look him up.  He lives in Saugatuck, about an hour from me.  Of course, he lives on the Lake (Michigan).  Looking forward to reading some of his books about Michigan.  I'm happy you brought him to my attention.

Re: JULY 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

@Oznell  I just started the book. I like how it started out with a bang! Anyway, my son recently installed Prime for us and I'm trying to figure out how to get the movies, and I'm jumping all around and this title came up:The Auschwitz Report. I didn't know how to get more info on it so I found lots of articles online. Sounds like it very well could be the book? Not sure.
