Hello everyone,
Happy July. Thank you to icezeus for stepping up to keep this great thread going. Prayers to sunala and hope to see her back here soon.
I just finished "Beneath a Scarlet Sky" for a bookclub I recently joined. It is about a young Italian man and how he and his family dealt with Hitler moving in on Italy and pushing Mussolini to the side.
I also read "The Four Winds" by Kristin Hannah. Takes place during the depression. I kept thinking of "The Grapes of Wrath" while reading it.
Tonight I will start "Eternal" by Lisa Scottoline. She recently did a zoom presentation with our local book store and this book was the subject. I waited a long time for the book to become available at our local library.
Happy reading!

@smoky22 wrote:@Snow Kitten I absolutely loved Circe. I read it twice, which I never do. For me, The Song of Achilles was pretty good, but nowhere as interesting as Circe. Hope you get it and enjoy it.
@smoky22 @Snow Kitten , I am so glad to see this. I have it and have not read it yet. Wasn't there a series. I think I watched it. S

@teganslaw wrote:@pateacher let us know how if you like "The Maidens." I have this book on hold at the library.
I'm reading "Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind" by Ann B. Ross. Someone in the forum mentioned this book, and I'm enjoying it.
The book takes place in a small town in North Carolina. Julia Springer, a rich widow, has her life turned upside down when a woman arrives at her doorstep with a young boy, claiming that she was the mistress of Julia's late husband and the boy is his illegitimate son. Everything she thought about her husband and her structured life has changed as she tries to do the right thing for the child.
The book is written with humor which displays small town living. I like Julia a lot and will most likely check out the other books in this series.
@teganslaw make sure and read all the other Miss Julia's since that one came out. Ann just released this past year the final tales of Miss Julia's life. What a ride it has been. I envy you to have all those books yet to read

I just finished Eternal this morning and took back to the library on my way to work. I thought the next person in line would love to have her for the holiday weekend.

Just wrapped up Hummingbrd Lane by Carolyn Browm this was good! A sad story but tugged at my heartstring too!

Just finished Rushing Waters by Danielle Steel in one day. I can't recall the last time I read a book in one day but her books are so easy to read. It wasn't a love story for a change so it was a nice change. I can't believe I read a book about a hurricane when so many are happening now.

I have tried to read The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins. I just could not do it. I should have stopped last night when I was about 50 pages in and struggling. However, the book has good reviews so I decided to push myself. Well tonight I have crossed the 100 page mark, and I just cannot force myself to read anymore.
Reading for me is a form of entertainment, and this is book is not entertaining. I feel as if it's a chore to read each chapter, and the chapters are short. Sigh!!
I have several books home from the library so I am going to read a book from Linda Castillo.
I always enjoy her books.

I read this book and it's not my usual type of book. It was just ok. I needed something different to read and this was it.
