It's ok if I don't finish a book. If it's boring or too slow, I say let it go and find another book.

It would be helpful to know the name of the book and its author.

I only read library ebooks and audiobooks---I'm a voracious reader. However, If I don't like a book after reading 20% or so I return. Why waste my time and deprive prospective readers of a book?

Sometimes I have to wait so long to get a book so by the time it comes I have lost interest, lol.

I used to finish all the books I checked out, were loaned to me or bought. A few years ago I stopped doing that. If the subject matter is distasteful to me or just plain makes me sleepy I put it in my car for my next trip back to the library. Time is too precious and way too many books to read drivel.

I used to force myself to finish a book that I started even though I didn't care for it, for whatever reason. I stopped doing that years ago. There are too many excellent books waiting to be read, so why waste time on something that is not holding my interest? What I do instead, is read the last chapter or two to find out the ending, and move on to the next book.

I use to go to the Library more. They built a new one, then Covid. Between those 2 things, I got out of the habit of going. Took up new hobbies, and find most all else on line or on You Tube, that interests me now. Then when I decided to use it again, my ability to put books on reserve, doesn't work. They say it's not on their end. So, needless to say, I don't want to work so hard just to check out a book. I'll stay with what I'm doing and it works just fine for me.
But no, if I wasn't going to read it, or didn't care about it, I took it back.

No, I do not always continue with a book if I'm not engaged and enjoying.
Appreciate the selection of ebooks and audiobooks through our local library. Easy to put on hold, mark as future read, and return books through the Libby application on my tablet without leaving home.
Still enjoy physically going to the library to peruse the shelves. It like going to the candy store as a kid. Happy Reading All!

Do you always read them?
I recently returned a mystery novel half read. It had too much graphic violence, which I wasn't expecting. It also had about a dozen "foreign" names from five different countries, and I couldn't keep them all straight, even though I made notes as I went along.
I suspect this writer hoped this series continuation would result in a blockbuster-type movie.
I won't force myself to read books that don't engage me.
I took it back and got others to read.

Somewhere in my early education, I had it drilled into my head that I should read a chosen book through, even if I didn't care for it, that there's benefit in seeing if there's something to learn, enjoy, or just to critique different writing styles.
Now days, I say never again. Life is too short, to waste reading a book that adds nothing to my life. Besides, being out of the educational system, there's not going to be a quiz, lol.
So I do take library books back promptly, or donate purchased books, if they don't work for me. I'll never force myself to read a book I dislike again. I already paid my dues back in the day.

I do check out books from my public library. I generally check out 4 books at a time and they give you two weeks but automatically renew them for another two weeks unless a book is on hold. I will give a book about 100 pages and if it doesn't interest me I will start another. I'll give the author the benefit of the doubt but life is too short to devote to a book that does not interest me.
I also will buy books on sale that the library offers but they don't seem to have the variety they used to have. It now seems the books available for purchase are by authors that have written a lot of books like James Patterson or Danielle Steele. Those are too formulaic, don't interest me.
But libraries are wonderful source of community services and I hope people support their libraries.
