I won't read any more of her books because if this. Very disturbing rapes and graphic murders.

@Northray Karin Slaughter has a new book coming out later this year "This is Why we Lied". I have it on my books to request when it becomes available at my library. I believe it is a Will Trent book at least I hope so as I like them.
Are you referring to "After that Night"? That was the last book she wrote I think.
The books that scare me into upset tho I like readng them would be the Nick Petrie, Brad Thor, Brad Taylor, Steven Counts, Bruce Borgos type about terrorist activities and plots we never realize happen and our world is saved in a nick of time by the special forces types
Once I have finished a book most usually I cant remember the name/author and that is true of two books i recently read that scared me One was about a plot that toppled a high rise crane and continue doing it until their demands were met and the other was about taking down a plane full of passesnger and it was a plot to undermine our country. Those books give me pause and scare me. Makes me wonder what goes on in the world we know nothing about.

@Northray, if I'm not mistaken I thought she was an FBI profiler. I think if you spoke to anyone in law enforcement familiar with profiling they would tell you such predators do exist.
But besides that, I think most authors, artists want their audience to be moved by their work. I can't think of anything more gratifying to them then to know their work has a long lasting effect to where you continue to think of their work long after having put it down.

@Love my grandkids I read a couple chapters of Shades of Grey and that was enough for me. Not a book I would ever want to read.
And what is worse I had a friend who thought it was romantic!

That's what I was afraid of.

Years ago me and my mom were both reading The Clan of the Cave Bear, I still remember her calling me and telling me she had to put the book down often to catch her breath! There was so much sex in that book lol! I miss my mom she had such a good sense of humor.

@Etoile308 That's my opinion. I want to be so shocked, disturbed, moved, or whatever that I still think about it long after I've read the book.

I have read a few of her books but she is not one that I go looking for or look forward to reading. I have wondered what kind of book she and Stephen King could cook up together if they ever joined forces. I would not be able to sleep ever again I am sure.

I find it very healthy when readers recoil from some of the very deliberate squalor that some authors revel in, so I find some posts here encouraging.
If your very being is saying to you, 'this book is too dark, it is wallowing in the muck and not good for me or anyone to read', it is smart to make a personal decision to toss it away.
I've had to do that with a few, and felt better for it.

Have read her books, but none recently. I no longer read books with disturbing topics. Now it's lightweight mysteries for me.
