This is the time of year where I like nice, easy reading.  That is why I always look forward to the Christmas edition of the Moonglow Cafe Christmas series by Deborah Garner.    Each book is a little different even though the setting and main characters are the same in each book.   It is a nice way to start the holidays.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

I am in the same rut.  I just read Lee Child's new Reacher book. Love JR, but had a bit of a hard time starting it. Don't know why.  Did enjoy it when I was done.  I just finished Ben Coe's newest Bloody Sunday. It was very good, but it took me forever to finish it. It's just a busy time of year, and other things occupy our minds. I have three books from the library I just checked out, and have not started any. They all looked interesting at the library!  Well, maybe at the start of the new year. Doesn't hurt to take some time off.  I am sure I will get back to it. Reading and music are my favorite things in life besides my family.

I have been here too. It seems such a waste of money and time when the book does not turn out good. Since its often a compulsion for me to finish a book, most of the times I keep willing a bad storyline to somehow transform and change my opinion about it right through the end. Alas! that does not happen.

As to re-reading I don't think many people can beat my mom. She's a through-and-through Ayn Rand fan and she has read Atlas Shrugged by the author over 300 times. She was first given the novel when she was 15 so that helped I guess. Smiley Happy

I looked at my Goodreads account for books I rated 5 stars.  @joannecha  Here are some of them that may be of general interest, in case you haven't read them.

Lottery - Patricia Wood

News of the World - Paulette Jiles

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Gail Honeyman

Last Ride to Graceland - Kim Wright

The Last Policeman - Ben H. Winters

If the Creek Don't Rise - Leah Weiss

The Second Mrs Hockaday - Susan Rivers

The Story of Arthur Truluv - Elizabeth Berg

Anything by Alexander McCall Smith

@smoky22- wow, your list is very similar to mine. I agree with Lottery, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, The Last Policeman, and The Story of Arthur Truluv (and its sequel, Night of Miracles, which was sooooooooooo good)!

I would add:

The Great Alone - Kristin Hannah

Every Note Played - Lisa Genova

Wonder - R.J. Palacio

Falling to Earth - Kate Southwood

The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen 83-1/2 Years Old - Hendrik Groen

Inheriting Edith - Zoe Fishman

The Bookshop on the Corner - Jenny Colgan

I rated all the above books with 4 and 5 stars. I loved them all. Happy reading!
