Joyful, fun, silly, clever, thought provoking, fantastic rhymes--such great books for children!

Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) has been awarded a Pulitzer Prize,  an Academy Award, three Emmy's and three Grammy's, and has an annual award named after him given out by the American Library Association.

What a literary genius!

Re: I'VE NEVER READ A DR. SEUSS BOOK

I don't even need to have the books in front of me.  I can recite many of them from memory.

I read them to my children and grandchildren and they memorized them too.  They are so catchy.

There is no order to read them in and they only take a minute to go through each book. Read a few in the library, no need to check them out.

Re: I'VE NEVER READ A DR. SEUSS BOOK

I remember getting The Cat in the Hat and maybe one other Dr. Seuss book for Christmas when I was about 6 years old. It was easy to read and gave me more confidence in my reading ability (I used to freeze when I had to stand up and read aloud in class). Another benefit for my Mom was that I'd read them to my 3 year old sister, occupying 2 of her 3 kids in a quiet activity for a little while.

Dr. Seuss died when my son was in 3rd grade. The 3rd grade teacher had a Famous Persons Tea Party every year. Each child had to choose a famous person who was dead, research their life, write 10 questions & answers about them, dress as that person and bring a dish to share at the tea party. DS chose Doctor Seuss and his dish was green eggs and ham (deviled eggs with diced ham tinted light green).

Re: I'VE NEVER READ A DR. SEUSS BOOK

My elementary school library had them all and always ordered any new releases. This was 1968 to 1974. I purchased many of them for my son in the late '80's and again for my grandchildren.

Re: I'VE NEVER READ A DR. SEUSS BOOK

I was a big reader as a child but never had any Dr Seuss books at home.  But then as a teacher I always read them to my students and at home to my kids. They were such fun books to read. But honestly it would never occur to me to pick one up as an adult.  I read constantly, but Dr Seuss is not on the list lol.

I highly recommend The Foot Book. It was one of our family's favorites.

Re: I'VE NEVER READ A DR. SEUSS BOOK

@Tinkrbl44 - Oh, the Places You'll Go! if you read Dr. Seuss! LOL!

My children loved them - Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Hop on Pop, The Cat in the Hat, etc. Yertle the Turtle, the Sneetches, and so many other characters.

Our school had "Dr. Seuss Day" every March on his birthday. Students brought in a book and took another one home. A local book store donated boxes of brand new books.

There are so many. My children both loved them. You don't have to read them in any order. Enjoy!  Smiley Happy

Re: I'VE NEVER READ A DR. SEUSS BOOK

I never read one.  I was raised in Italy.  The books were transalted there, but for some reason I was never read to by these books.
