Re: How do you keep track of books

I used to to keep track of the books I read and did so for a long time and then other things took over my life and I stopped keeping track.  Since I primarily use the library who cares if I check out a book I've already read. Just return it. It's just a personal choice of keeping track, mainly I did it to keep track of how many books I read in a year.  I don't care about that anymore.

Re: How do you keep track of books

Definitely Goodreads. Also goodreads is a great resource, if somebody recommends a book or an author I will go to Goodreads and see the book ratings.

I read a lot and don't want to waste my time starting a book that I immediately don't like.  It's also great if you like an author who writes a series of books, you can look and see what the first book is.

Re: How do you keep track of books

I have written about this before, so skip it if it sounds familiar.

I have a list of all the books I have read since high school (50+ years).  I keep it in a 3 ring binder that uses half size sheets of paper.  I record a yearly list and lists by author.  It is one of my most prized possessions.  It wouldn't mean anything to anyone else, but I value it.

I also keep track of books I want to read in my planner.  I list new books on the week they will be published.  My public library allows books to be reserved prior to publication and use that feature often for new books by my favorite authors.

Re: How do you keep track of books

My library in Florida keeps a history of books I take out.  I can and do check it before taking out a book from them.  My library in Pa. doesn't have that so I just wing it.

I bought my friend a reading journal for Christmas last year and she loves it.  Did you ever forgot you already read a book? I have.  Not with this journal.  She has all her books listed and her opinion on the book.  I have to get myself one.

@Biftu

What is this reading journal that you posted about?  I don't have any list or anything of the books or authors that I have read and I have forgotten several times about books that I have already read and then I buy a duplicate.  It's a bit late for me to start trying to track them now but I would like to start if there is an easy way to do it.  I read actual books not e-books.  Thanks!

@AngelPuppy1  the journal I ordered was on Amazon, but it is no longer available.  It was called Kunitsa Reading Journal.  I'm sure they have similar options.  She, and me, only read actual books as well.

Thank you.  Too bad that journal isn't available any more!

@smoochy I don't but I should!  There have been times when I found myself reading what I thought was a new book only to say to myself...this sounds familiar!

Re: How do you keep track of books

I started using Goodreads a few years back at the recommendation of a reading buddy and it helps me a lot. I used to purchase most of my books from A* and they would alert me if I try to purchase a book I previously got from them. Unfortunately my A* account was hacked so I closed it and solely rely on Goodreads now. It's helpful when I am at our local bookstores and can look up books by an author I have read and liked in the past. I use the app often.

Re: How do you keep track of books

If you use Libby, when you check out book from your tag list you can just move it over to another list.  Mine is called Already Read.  Ha, ha like I can't still mess up and check it again.

You can the sort by author and title.

Re: How do you keep track of books

Most of my books come from the public library, even the audio ones.  At one time I was also keeping my mother suplied with reading materal, as well as several grands.  For myself and my mom, I kept a spiral notebook with dates and books we'd read.  I also kept a running list of favorite authors and books we wanted to read (in the order they were written).  When my husband was living, I also checked out books for him. . . I'm an excellent library patron!
