@sandy53 wrote:I just returned from a wonderful 16 day cruise. I had my Kindle loaded and read 10 books.
Good light, funny reads: The Friend Zone (Abby Jimenez), Life's too Short (Abby Jimenez), Part of Your World (Abby Jimenez), Funny Story (Emily Henry).
Racing the Light by Robert Crais, which I did not really like.
The Teacher by Freida McFadden. I liked this one more than I thought I would. I usually don't like psycholocial thrillers, but as a retired teacher I was intrigued by this one. Highly recommended.
Kindle Unlimited books in series I read: Ripple Effect (LT Ryan), Cold Reckoning (LT Ryan), Field of Bones (LT Ryan), Track Her Down (Melinda Leigh). All were very good mystery/thrillers.
Now I am reading The Mitford Affair by Marie Benedict for my book club meeting on Monday. I do not like reading about Hitler and the Nazis, but if you like historical fiction it might be good for you.
I didn't like Racing the Light, either. I am giving his new book a chance and if I don't like it I may be done with Robert. I liked his earlier books a lot. But I Will be looking into LT Ryan!

Just finished a Jewish historical novel based on true life. Iris Mitlin Lav's Gitel's Freedom. Not as good as some of my other Jewish historical fiction I've read but good.

@cindyNC wrote:Wow - sounds like everyone is reading fascinating books with some depth to them.
I'm going thru a phase where I'm reading for distraction.........romance-type books with dogs in them.
Not dog books: Rivals by Jilly Cooper (set in England, competition for funding for TV stations, lots of backstabbing, infidelity but no graphic s*x)
Next up is Patricia Cornwall's Identity Unknown.
You might like Dianne Harman's Cozy Mysteries - she has several different series (two are current as of now) each one has a different type of dog in it. Her first series was Kelly's Koffee Shop set in Oregon, then she had a series set in Colorado; there was another one set in Midwest; the two current ones are set in Missouri.

@nwbabs wrote:Finished yesterday Finding Freedom: A Cook's Story Remaking a Life from Scratch by Erin French. Genres: Memoir, Nonfiction.
Erin French is the owner and chef of The Lost Kitchen, an acclaimed small restaurant in Freedom, Maine where the only way to get a seat is mail a postcard for a reservation lottery. A conversation with friends peaked my interest to read the book narrated by the the author.
The book navigates French's early life growing up in a very small town in Maine through various toxic relationships, family drama, and personal struggles. Her journey culminates with her now very successful restaurant surrounded by healthier relationships.
Overall, the book was a mixed bag read for me as far as my rating. Goodreads average rating is 4.25.
Cheers All and Happy Reading!
Loved this book. Need to read the sequel.
thanks, I have seen her show on Magnolia channel - I will look to add her book to my list.

The other night I finished The Wish by Nicholas Sparks, tear jerker, especially last few chapters of book.
Before that I read The Hollow Dead by Darcy Coates (book 4 of 5) - it's one of paranormal where one of the characters can see dead people but also help the dead cross over.
For a fun Mystery I like to read A.R. Winters - Lover her Tiffany Black Las Vegas cozy mysteries; now Tiffany, her friends and some family have moved to a small town in AZ (waiting for book 3 in this series to come out). I also like to read her cruise series where someone always seems to die on the Swan Cruises.
Right now I am trying to read I was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon, just started it so haven't gotten very far into it yet. I previously read Frozen River by Ariel and liked it; but the only thing is she is one of those that goes back in forth between time periods so you have to keep up with what period you are in as to what is going on.
