@icezeus, @on the bay, I had no idea one of the Amish mysteries I like was made into a movie. I'd love to watch it.

@AuntG - I saw the movie based on Linda Castillo's first book years ago.  It was pretty good, although Neve Campbell doesn't look like the Kate portrayed in the book.  I think it was on one of the Hallmark channels or a movie of the week, back when those were done.  It wasn't ever on the big screen.  If I ever see it playing again, I'll come back to this forum and let you know.  I enjoy this series too.

The J. P. Beaumont series by J. A. Jance

The Melanie Travis dog show mysteries by Laurien Berenson

The Jo Beth Siddons bloodhound mysteries by Virgina Lanier

And so many more!  I could go on and on....

The mom of this mother and daughter writing team passed away and this latest book was written by just the daughter (although she said her mom was also guiding her).    I haven't read it yet.

Re: FAVORITE MYSTERY PROTAGONISTS?

Besides John Sandford's Lucas Davenport that has already been mentioned, other favorites are:

Alex Kava's- Maggie Odell series as well as her Ryder Creed series.

Kay Hooper's-  Noah Bishop

Jeffery Deaver's- Lincoln Rhyme

Stephen White's- Alan Gregory

I also use to be a James Patterson's Alex Cross fan but haven't picked up an Alex Cross novel in some time, I lost interest a couple of years ago.

Re: FAVORITE MYSTERY PROTAGONISTS?

  • Encyclopedia Brown, by Donald J Sobol (he inspired a lifelong love of mysteries)
  • Holmes & Watson, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
  • Kinsey Milhone, by Sue Grafton
  • Spenser, no first name given, by Robert B Parker
  • Helen Hawthorne, from the Dead End Jobs series, by Elaine Viets
  • Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James, by Deborah Crombie
  • Skink, by Carl Hiaasen*
  • Mick Stranahan, by Carl Hiaasen*
  • Erin Grant, by Carl Hiaasen*
  • Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers, by Elizabeth George
  • Maggie Kelly and Alexandre Saint Just, by Kasey Michaels
  • John Marlin, from the Blanco County Mysteries, by Ben Rehder
  • Lt. Columbo - not a book, but leaving him out of my mystery protagonist favorites would be a travesty. Columbo's "just one more thing" style makes him one of the best

*Carl Hiaasen writes funny mysteries, but he doesn't have many recurring characters. A few appear in 2 books, but most are one-shot deals. Skink and the state of Florida are really the only recurring characters that appear in more than two books. Florida is as much a character in a Hiaasen book as any person is.

Question ....

Has anyone read any of Michael Connoly's Harry Bosch series?  If so, what's your opinion of Harry?
