An oldie I like are the Kent Family Chronicles by John Jakes. The series was written to celebrate the bicentennial.

@IMW I'll second that!  It's not fiction, but it is the best around!

Ron Chernow is a great writer--I read his as soon as they come out (Hamilton), and also an oldie but a goodie is Gore Vidal's "Burr" I found fascinating.

Also Doris Kearns Goodwin is a great source writer. Her book on Johnson is fascinating.  She is a great writer!

I read about all the Presidents--like 'em or not and find it fascinating.  Sometimes I change my mind a little too!  Woman Very Happy

I agree, I love reading a good biography.  Even if I don't like the person!

There is usually a little fiction thrown in too, we can't know all the facts from 300 years ago.

I realize my suggestions for the most part "fiction" but I think the are good reads, and well researched.

Except "Burr" is fiction and I loved it. Fascinating story!  If I were doing a musical, I'd have done that over Hamilton!  LOL!!!

Re: Early America Historical Fiction suggestions

I have been enjoying the Daughters of the Mayflower series.  Book 1 in the series is The Mayflower Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse which takes place in 1620 aboard the Speedwell ship.  All of the novels are stand-alones.  The most recent is Book 11 titled The Blizzard Bride by Susanne Dietze.  It takes place in Nebraska in 1888.  I hope to read all 11!  Beautiful covers too.

Re: Early America Historical Fiction suggestions

One of my favorite historical fiction authors is Laura Frantz.  Two of my favorites of hers are The Lacemaker which takes place on the eve of the American Revolution in Colonial Williamsburg and The Colonel's Lady which takes place in 1779 in frontier Kentucky.
