@Lilysmom1 wrote:@smoochy I thought Bright Young Women was good too. I rated it 4/5*.
@icezeus and readers, I have been keeping a record of Books read in 2024. I am at number 50 on December 1/24. So I am reading a book a week which sounds about right for me.
This is my first time keeping a record. Do you know how many books you read in a year?
Decided to check how many books I've read so far this year @Lilysmom1 on Goodreads. It looks like 146 books finished to date in 2024. Retirement has really given me precious reading time I did not have a few years ago. In those working and family focus years, 50 books were rare for me. More like 30 books average.
Looks like I've been keeping track of books read since 1995 and migrated to using Goodreads for recordkeeping at some point. My first book recorded for 1995 is Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy. Great book and movie.
Oh My...that's almost 30 years of books on there. Thank for the question and I can't believe I've been on Goodreads/recording that long. Time flies even faster with your nose (or ears) in good books!

@smoochy wrote:ok guys you got me interested in tracking my reading and reading more. I downloaded the Goodreads app. Will start the 2025 challenge. For me as a senior person, I can only read a couple chapters at a time. My vision gets blurry and eyestrain sets in. But at least I can still read! Like some of you, I've occasionally forgotten that I already read a book. Happens most often with a book series. Now with Goodreads I'm set up for the coming year.
Excellent @smoochy great job getting on Goodreads. It is very helpful for so many reasons.
My late hubby had eye issues and a host of other things that kept him from reading enjoyment most of his life. I got him interested in audiobooks (20+ years ago cds or playaways from the library). That became his solace.
Technology has certainly advanced and downloading audiobooks is a breeze now through the library 24/7 compared to 20+ years ago.
Enjoy Goodreads and thank you for posting as it has brought up sweet memories for me. Take care.

@nwbabs I have always thought that loving to read was a gift. I always have a book on the go. Your number of 146 is amazing. We were always encouraged to read, starting at a young age. We had a library room in our home and I can remember my father coming home with the eagerly awaited box of books from Book of the Month Club. Do you remember that?
We have a great group of readers here. Thanks to @icezeus and @sunala befire her for keeping us going.
Happy reading everyone!

@abbalulu @I keep a list of books read on my iPad. I use Goodreads all the time so I should check out how to track books read. I have other hobbies I love like gardening and quilting. I love every one of them!

@smoochy wrote:I don't keep track of how many books I read in any given time period. But many do. What's the purpose of that?? Enquiring minds need to know 😉
@smoochy , I was curious to see what the # was and I also have read so many that I have been guilty of picking up the same one twice. I use an Ereader to read and I find that makes remembering the title harder as you don't see the title every time you pick the book up again to read. For your enquiring mind! 😀

To echo those on GR here, I love it and wouldn't switch to any other place. The giveaways are great. I don't do the yearly challenge but I look forward to seeing how many book I've read at the end of the year. I surprise myself since I don't rush through my books just to read the next one. I'm retired and read at least a book every 3-4 days usually. Sometimes two.
Speaking of reading, I'm starting off December in a slump. I dnf a book at page 159 which is unusual for me. Just wasn't worth it. The the end of November, the same situation. I'm starting another one today so let's see how that goes. LOL

@roeroe1005 wrote:I keep a running list of books through our local library site. Also I created a TBR list.
I do it, unfortunately, because I don't remember what I've read. Many times I would take a book out, read a chapter or 2 and think I'm a psychic. No ... I read it already!
If you are using the library, click on your "book history" and you'll see everything you ever took out at the library. Sometimes I'm astounded that I don't remember many of them!
