December has arrived and I almost forgot to start the new thread.
What books will you be reading to finish out 2024?
I am currently reading Twisted Prey (Lucas Davenport, #28) by John Sanford.

I am reading the last book in the Jan Karon Mitford series and will be looking soon for my next series to read. before finding this series I always read British detective mysteries. I enjoyed them but wanted a change to something more pleasant than murders
if anyone has read the Karon Mitford books, can you recommend a similar series, please?

about halfway through Bright Young Women, a story told through the voices of fictionalized characters about the Ted Bundy murders. It is well written and chilling.
After that I have a couple of Louise Penny detective novels waiting on my TBR shelf

@smoochy I thought Bright Young Women was good too. I rated it 4/5*.
@icezeus and readers, I have been keeping a record of Books read in 2024. I am at number 50 on December 1/24. So I am reading a book a week which sounds about right for me.
This is my first time keeping a record. Do you know how many books you read in a year?

My favorite Christmas book is "Shepherds Abiding" by Jan Mitford. It is really a modern day version of "The Gift of the Magi" my second favorite Christmas story.

Finished Along Came a Spider by James Patterson.
Kept my interest and moved right along. Will continue the Cross series as they are new to me.
Also finished Liliana's Invincible Summer by Cristina Rivera Garza.
It is a personal story of a sister, many years later, trying to understand her sister's murder. The story is told in the voices and writings of those who were there over the final years, including the victim. Fascinating to see the different takes.

I don't keep track of how many books I read in any given time period. But many do. What's the purpose of that?? Enquiring minds need to know 😉

The books by James Herriot are very heartwarming.

@Lilysmom1 I have kept track of my books for some time now in a little notebook made specifically for that which was gifted to me.
Then a few years ago I started keeping track on Goodreads too and I also enter their yearly reading challenge.
I too read about a book a week-some years a bit more some years less. I guess it depends on what is happening in my "real" life.
I'm so glad that I have the ability to escape into a book.
I feel sad for those who are not readers; they are missing the chance to travel to different times and places and meet "people" who would have never come into their lives otherwise. I also feel I have expanded my education through reading-even if it is fiction you still learn about things that you might never before have thought about.
