Re: DECEMBER 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

@smoochy I read so much it is not uncommon to pick up a book I already read.  Especially so with the Ereader which does not display the book cover each time you pick it up.  Also, in discussions here about various titles I can go back and see how I rated the book.

Re: DECEMBER 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I just finished Angel of Vengeance, the 22nd book in the Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.  I've read every book in this series and have loved most of them.  This one is the last in the Dr Leng Trilogy and it hasn't been my favorite story line.  I'm tired of the Constance Greene family saga and I want Pendergast to go back to being just FBI Special Agent Pendergast and solving crimes they way he used to.

Re: DECEMBER 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I finished listening to BOOKED FOR MURDER by P.J. Nelson. Mystery wasn't particularly noteworthy, but I did like the three main females. Like a Hallmark mystery, the mystery is "solved" when the murderer tries to kill the heroine.

I also listened to THE BOOK OF DOORS by Gareth Brown. I feel like a few years back every book was about magical doors. Anyways,as far as the magic and what you are asked to suspend belief about - I was okay with that. But, several times, characters had to make truly stupid decisions that were eye rolling.  Sure - I suppose necessary to spur the story forward, but honestly there had to be another way to do the same.

Now I'm listening to a book apparently about nothing, which I didn't know.  I just knew it was (supposedly) a top book of the year.

Re: DECEMBER 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I finished What Time the Sexton's Spade Doth Rust by Alan Bradley, the 11th in the Flavia De Luce series.  Number 10 was supposed to be the end so I was pleasantly surprised to see this new book (5 years later).  The plot leaves things a little murky, so I suspect the series will continue now.  Flavia's inner dialogue is hilarious and I love her obsession with anything to do with poisons.  I found the book utterly charming. I think you need to read the previous books to appreciate this one.

Readers, I will actually be out of town right before New Years day. I will take my I-pad with me, and try to start the new thread before I go out on New Years Eve.

If it looks strange. I will straighten it out sometime on New Years Day!

I just finished reading my last book for 2024. Counting Miracles by Nicholas Sparks.

I have seen several of his movies, but this is his first book that I have read. I have to say I rated the book 2 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. Which equates to an "OK" rating. I guess I would say it was 2.5 stars.  The book alternated every chapter between two stories that are interwoven. One of the stories was pretty boring to me. I would have been good if he would have stuck with the story on the Army Ranger.

Thank you for thinking of this forum even when you are going out of town.  I know I appreciate it.
