Re: DECEMBER 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I think Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock is my favorite Christmas novel. Wait. I haven't read any Christmas themed books I don't think! Oh, well, this is a very 'warm' feeling book. Not long, either.

Re: DECEMBER 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I have a list of all the books I have read since high school (50+ years) and consider it one of my most valued possessions.  I keep yearly lists plus lists by author in a 5.5 X 8.5 inch loose leaf binder.  I do it for many of the same reasons others have mentioned:  series, avoiding repeats, etc.  I don't set yearly reading goals, but I love being able to see what I have read each year.

A Christmas Duet, by Debbie Macomber;  A high school assistant band teacher and part time writer of her own songs, Hailey is ready to spend the Christmas holidays working on her music.  However, Hailey does not look forward to going home where her former fiancee after three years of being broken up wants to reunite and as instigated her Mother to help his cause.  Her mother going so far as to invite him to their family Christmas in her hometown.  Hailey's dear friend offers up her family's remote cabin in a very small town to spend the holidays alone with just her guitar.  Perfect until she arrives with no electricity, a raccoon living inside the cabin and with bats as roommates.  To the rescue is the small town's mayor's son to put all to rights along with Hailey's heart.  But Christmas is not that easy and relaxing when her family will just not give up.

What Does It Feel Like?, by Sophie Kinsella.  This book is about the fictional writer of the popular Shopaholic books and the struggles she begins to have in her next novel.  The ideals are not coming until it dawns on her to write what she would want to read in the perfect book.  She starts from scratch dumps the book about the mythical Wilson Family and begins anew.  But then illness and struggling to stay alive blows into her families life like a hurricane and nothing for any of them will ever be the same.

If you read the Shopaholic books and decide to read the above one please after you finish read the author's note by Sophie Kinsella.

@abbalulu @I keep a list of books read on my iPad.  I use Goodreads all the time so I should check out how to track books read.  I have other hobbies I love like gardening and quilting.  I love every one of them!

And you have a beautiful garden. I always enjoy when you post pictures. Plus I have seen pictures of your quilts which are lovely. I'm always drawn to quilts and view them as artworks. You are a woman of many talents.

Re: DECEMBER 2024 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I did a search for best book trackers and came up with a bunch of them besides Goodreads. In addition to that one I downloaded Bookmory. It's a tracker without the social component, no reader submitted reviews or interactions. I'll see how I like it. The reviews on Goodreads drive me nuts. Many of them seem immature, unsophisticated in terms of having very limited perspectives. But I suspect that most of the reviewers are much younger than I. Anyway I'm more interested in tracking my reading habits than with social interactions. I get the social stuff that I enjoy here in this group. 😍

No it is really an oldie, maybe from the 90s.  I just thought if I was going to try out a new series that I would start with the first book.

If you do Libby you can sort by publication date and they also identify the # in the series.

What a beautiful memory of your Father @Lilysmom1. I have not heard anyone mention Book of the Month Club in ages. Agree totally, it is a great group of readers here in the Book Club Forum. So appreciate the wide variety of reading material it has open my eyes to checking out. Cheers.

@nwbabs I have always thought that loving to read was a gift.  I always have a book on the go.  Your number of 146 is amazing.  We were always encouraged to read, starting at a young age.  We had a library room in our home and I can remember my father coming home with the eagerly awaited box of books from Book of the Month Club.  Do you remember that?

We have a great group of readers here.  Thanks to @icezeus and @sunala befire her for keeping us going.

Happy reading everyone!

Both my parents were Book of the Monthers. So of course when I left home and got married I was, too!
