DECEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

It's the end of the year. How swiftly time has passed.

What books will you be reading to finish out the year strong?

I am currently reading Extreme Prey by John Sanford.

I am just about finished with The Edge by David Baldacci.  Very good book as usual.

Just finished Resurrection Walk by Michael Connelly, also a good story.

Next up will be Bloodlines by Nelson DeMille and then Ball at Versailles by Danielle Steel.

I have three being held at the library to pick up The Engagement Party by Finley Turner and A Very Inconvenient Scandal by Jacquelyn Michard and The Watchmaker' hand by Jeffrey Deaver.

Re: DECEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I've had a lot of books from my libraries' hold lists come due.  The best one I've read so far has been

Capture.JPG

Well researched historical fiction about how Polish librarians and voluteers hid banned books during WWII.  It's also about  the Grey Ranks -  Boy and Girl Scouts in Poland.

"Older Scouts carried out sabotage, armed resistance, and assassinations. The Girl Guides formed auxiliary units working as nurses, liaisons and munition carriers. Younger Scouts were involved in so-called minor sabotage under the auspice of the Wawer organization, which included dropping leaflets or painting the kotwica sign on the walls. During Operation Tempest, and especially during the Warsaw Uprising, the Scouts participated in the fighting, and several Szare Szeregi units were some of the most effective in combat. The Grey Ranks also included the White Couriers, who between late fall 1939 and mid-1940 helped smuggle many persons out of Soviet-occupied southeastern Poland into Hungary.[citation needed]

Re: DECEMBER 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I just returned 2 books that had absolutely no interest-not even half way through. Nothing on the racks appealed to me at the library, no newbies from my favorite authors. Finally ended up getting a Joe Pickett novel I'd missed. I know I won't be disappointed and I'll kill time pleasantly while waiting for my holds to come in. I mean, what's a girl to do?

One of my books that I am waiting for from the Library is Resurrection Walk by Michael Connelly. Last time I checked I was number 36 of 150 requests. (Sigh)

@Lilysmom1   I started reading Nelson DeMille years ago.  I think the first book of his I read was Gold Coast and I definitely added him to my list of go to authors.  I will let you know what I think of Bloodlines when I get to reading it.

@Judaline   I like Joe Pickett too.  What book are you reading?

Once in a while I will find a book I think I might like on the new fiction or book stacks and find a new author for me.  Most of the time tho I have already read anything I see that I would like on those shelves

This is one of those I returned after about 100 pages. Too much police procedurals that I would read and not remember ever. And too slow moving. I think Michael and I have come to the end of a beautiful friendship.
