Re: DECEMBER 2021 LET'S HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE READING

Just finished Someone Knows by Lisa Scottoline. One of my favorite authors.  This was a mystery from 2019.

Re: DECEMBER 2021 LET'S HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE READING

Just finished The Perfect Son! It was really good, except for some animal cruelty, I don't like that in books or movies at all!

I also felt like the ending was a bit rushed.....I love her books, this starts off really good, and is a quick read, but it wasn't my favorite by her.

I also was frustrated by the Mother in this book-won't say more because I know some of you may want to read it....

So far for me my most favorite books recently are THE MAN WHO DIED TWICE and THE 12 JAYS OF CHRISTMAS!  I highly recommend!

Just finished The Night Is Watching by Heather Graham, as always I enjoyed this book!  A number of murders occur in the present and the past, with several law agencies involved and with the help of spirits, the crimes are solved.

@smoky22

I too just finished the Lincoln Highway and did not care for it as much as Gentleman in Moscow, but did enjoy it.  It's much more character driven, and I came away with the impression that the Lincoln Highway is a metaphor.  The book, to my mind, is about family, friends and honor and how you define each of those.   Each relationship you have can go either way, good or bad and decisions made by others can definately have an effect on the direction of your life.  I loved Billy, he was the wise old soul.  Ending was abrupt and left me wanting more.

Love Abbi Waxman's books and this one was just as good, if not better, than her others.  I Told You It Would Get Easier was a fun read about a mother and daughter on an East Coast road trip for colleges. Emily is 16 and not sure if she wants to go to college in the first place.

I don't post here as often as I used to (and I can't get used to the other site).   I've also been kind of busy and don't read as much as I used to either.  But I just finished The Lincoln Highway and I was disappointed.  It started out strong and then veered off course.  Very little about the highway.  And it seemed too much like a YA book to me.  I loved A Gentleman In Moscow.  One of the best endings ever.  I didn't care for the ending of this one.  Well, I still gave it 3 stars.  It's well written but the story is actually kind of boring.

I just finished The Lincoln Highway and I agree with you about the ending.  It was not what I expected (or wanted for the characters).  I also agree that it really wasn't about the highway at all.  But I am glad I read it.  I admire the writing because it flowed so well and I liked how the backstories of the characters were exposed as the story went along.  I liked the short timeline of the story and the way the chapters counted down the days.  I also liked the change of perspectives and the cliffhangers.  However there were some coincidences that didn't ring true to me.  The characters seemed mature beyond their years, but with their backgrounds perhaps that should not be surprising.  I wouldn't consider it a YA book because of its length (576 pages) and lack of enough action to keep YAs interested.

Re: DECEMBER 2021 LET'S HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE READING

I just finished The Awakening (The Dragon heart Legacy) Book 1 by Nora Roberts.  I ended up really enjoying this book. It started off sort of slow for me, but since this is an author that I normally enjoy I gave the book more time for me to attach to the story. Once I did I was hooked and eagerly turned from page to page.

I rated the book 4/5 stars on Goodreads.

Re: DECEMBER 2021 LET'S HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE READING

I read Manitou Canyon by William Kent Krueger. It's #15 in his Cork O'Connor mystery series. I really enjoyed parts of the book - the adventure out in the Boundary Waters canoe area was really entertaining. This author does such a great job explaining wilderness that at times I felt like I was right out there with the characters! I would have been happy if it would have ended there but then it went on for several more chapters that just seemed odd. Overall it was an ok book where I enjoyed the beginning and middle but the ending was dragged out and just silly at times.
