Craig Johnson's newest Longmire

[ Edited ]

Somehow I was the very first to read the new Longmire book,"Daughter of the Morning Star", from our public library.  Lucky Me!!!  Johnson never disappoints, and this installment is full of mystery, humor and memorable characters.  In this story, Walt and his buddy (Henry Standing Bear) come to the aid of the local girl's basketball team, and their troubled star.  As in many of his books, there's a bit of Indian mystic and several twists I thought I saw coming.

If you loved watching Longmire on TV, check out the original books by Craig Johnson.  He is an American treasure and his books are truly classic.  In any case, start with the first volume, "The Cold Dish", and enjoy the ride!

I'll second that! We loved the Longmire series on Netflix. So sorry when it ended.

Re: Craig Johnson's newest Longmire

I have read all the Longmire books and I adored the TV series.  I must say though that I was rather dissappointed with the "Daughter of the Morning Star".  I just finished it this morning and to me it seemed very disjointed and disorganized.  I could not get into the problems of a girls basketball team plus all the parents and relatives who seemed to avoid and ignore Walt instead of helping him.  I also missed Ruby, Vic and the regular cast of characters because this story took place away from Walt's home turf.  There were too many story arcs that were not explained or concluded.  When I finish a book, I at least want answers to the questions that were strewn through out the story.

Side note:  My daughter in law met Louanne Stephen (who played Ruby) while waiting in line at an airport in Arizona.  Louanne was on her way to film the final season of Longmire.  My DIL told her how much she liked her and enjoyed her work.  Louanne asked if she would like a photo and autograph.  She gave her address to her and didn't know if she would hear from her or not.  A few weeks later she got an envelope with an autographed photo of Louanne as Ruby sitting at Walt's desk with her feet up on the desk and a big grin on her face.  Very nice and thoughtful.

I loved the Longmire series.

I listen to the books on Overdrive. I am only on #7 so I have a few to go.
