Catherine House...disappointed

I love making and reading everyone's recommendations on these forums, but today I gave up and deleted a Kindle book I was struggling to get through...it's Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas.
It was so heavily reviewed and critics loved it, but it left me bored. Supposed to be a Gothic mystery set in a prestigious boarding school...it's a big NO from me.
Sometimes critics love first-time novels and I become intrigued...it's always a gamble, right? If anyone had better luck with this one, I salute you. I just couldn't get through it!
