Buying Books from Favorite Authors

I think I posted here before about how I found out one of my favorite authors died last fall - Dorothea Benton Frank. I had a chance to have lunch with her one year through an independent bookstore, and I passed. I wish I hadn't. I loved her books, and thanks to other posters here I have a list of ones I haven't read yet.

Anyway, I found out a few days ago that another author I like had also died. I read Handsome Women by Judith Henry Wall years ago when I was young. I loved the story, and that was one book I wouldn't part with. I wanted to read more of her works but I never did. Now I'm on a quest to find her books.

Have any of you tried to find books by an author you like that are probably out of print?

@beach-mom I knew Judy Wall a million years ago when I was in college.  Lovely lady!

@beach-mom , There are quite a few of her books on Amazon.

@Sooner - That's amazing! You've probably read most of her books. She just drew me in with that first book. Did you ever see her after that or did you live far apart? Smiley Happy

@beach-mom No I was in groups she was in, we traveled in the same circles, and I knew her although we weren't bff's.  But that was a long time ago before she really became a known writer, and I moved away.

I knew she was a writer, but actually don't think I read any of the books.  I just knew her as an acquaintance.  I hadn't seen her in at least 15 years or more, but was shocked to read she died. There is nice obit online, and she was a lovely person.

@beach-mom

Just recently I read where one of my favorite female authors died:  Anne Rivers Siddons.  She wrote about life in the Low Country, the Carolinas and Georgia.

While the stories were fascinating, the use of the English language was beautiful and enjoyable.

Many years ago I had started to keep an alphabetical list by author of the books I was reading.  Last week while thrift shop hunting, I came across Nora,Nora.  The title didn't ring a bell, so for $1 I bought it.

Of course, once I came upon the pink thunderbird convertible, I knew I had read it and put it on the list.

I went on to finish the book: since it was the last book I would read by her, I relished every page.  May she Rest In Peace.

I was trying to think of an author I really liked and I can't remember her name. One book was about a pregnant girl who secretly lived in Walmart at night. Another had the name of a cafe in the title. All I can remember is the author's first name. Billy. These were the best books and sadly she'll write no more. thanks for any help.

@Judaline ,I think the book about the girl living in Walmart is "Where the Heart Is" by Billie Letts. I read it a long time ago. Wasn't a TV movie made about that? I can't think of the book with a cafe in the title.

"The Honk & Holler Opening Soon" might be the cafe one?
