Has anyone tried Blind Date With A Book? It's where you purchase a wrapped book with a genre you select; sometimes beautifully wrapped with a few goodies (like a pen, bookmark, etc). I purchased one at a local craft show last week and also bought 2 (with a goodie box) on Etsy this week. I splurged as a couple of early birthday gifts. I love the idea of it. I'm sure it's hit or miss...but I thought I would try it. Tell them what books you've read in that genre, or share your likes from the Good Reads app.

I think it's a really cute idea. I especially like it if some were geared for early school age and adolescence to spark a love of reading.

@Effie54. what a great idea! I love giving gifts that are book related. Just gave a friend both a throw and mug with a book.

@Etoile308  I agree. Some of the genres are geared towards young adults.

I probably wouldn't like it.  One year my son ordered a gift set something similar to this for me.  In three months I got three different books that came with little gifts such as tea, chocolates, etc.

However I couldn't get into any of those books.

@withaK

I thought the exact opposite. Faithful readers generally know their taste and are not fond of surprises.

I thought it would be better for the occasional reader, but to each his own. :-)
