Re: Best books to read in winter?

I almost forgot "A City Under One Roof," by Iris Yama******a.  It takes place in a real town in Alaska.  This one was very good also.

The fictional town of Point Mettier is based on the real town of Whittier, Alaska where all the residents live in one large apartment complex and the only way into the town is through a tunnel.  What a great setting for a mystery.

Here's a blurb about the book:

"In Point Mettier, they all live in the Davidson Condos – the Dave-Co, a building that houses two hundred five full-time residents. There’s a post office, church, infirmary, a general store, a school, all just one tunnel away. The only way to get to the town is through a two mile tunnel, and when the weather is bad, the tunnel shuts down, and the residents are on their own.

Actually Christmas themed, but I really enjoyed Elin Hilderbran's series:  Winter Street, Winter Stroll, Winter Stormes, and Winter Solstice.  By the time I was finished, I thought I was almost related to the family/their troubles. . .

Every year starting in October until I finish the series  I re read the The Cape Light series by Thomas Kiincade and carried on after his death by Katherine Spencer.  Also, The Mitford Series by Jan Karon.  Both are set in small town rural areas of New England and focus on family, friends and the holidays.  Never ever get tired of spending a part of the winter with my friends.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah takes place in Alaska.  It is a great read with very real depictions of dealing with that harsh frozen environment.

Great book!!!

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston. Here is a quick quote. It is from Reese's Book Club.

This fast-paced read has everything you could want in a thriller: secret identities, a mysterious boss and a cat & mouse game that kept me guessing the whole way through.” —Reese Witherspoon

Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. The main character is engaging. Some Christmas but a lot of winter. Pilcher isn't

my favorite author as I tend towards mysteries but I really liked this book.

@candyagain  thanks for mentioning this.  I have never read a Pilcher book but I will try this one.  I'm also a die hard mystery fan (and love Harry Bosch).

As to winter books I've enjoyed, I recommend The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey.

Love the Harry Bosch series and spin offs. Have you tried the J.P. Beaumont series by J A Jance? Think you'd like her books too.
