Am just now jumping into the pool on audio books. Just picked one up from my local library (on CD). I've been checking into Audible, but it seems kind of pricey. Does anyone here use audio books and, if so, what format & from where?

Thank you for all kind responses.--Joanne

If you look at the prices of individual audio books, I think you'll find that Audible is a bargain. Audio books expensive and always have been. Audible not only brings the price down to $14.95 or less whether your book is $25 or $45, but also offers a lot of other sales and discounts. They just finished a sale with hundreds of titles under $6. If a book goes on sale for $7 or less, I'll buy the book and save my monthly credit for something that's more than the $15 credit. Credits also roll over, so if I buy three sale books at $5 each one month, I'll keep my credits rolling and maybe use three credits in another month.

Re: Audible or audio books?

[ Edited ]

I have been an audiobook junkie for more than a decade! I belonged to Audible for a few years. The so-called savings didn't materialize for me. On occasion, I buy Audible books through Amazon and iTunes.  My library is a member of OverDrive. I download free audiobooks (and eBooks) from that source.  Your library may be a member of that service or another similar service. I borrow audiobook CDs from my library, and the statewide system it is part of, all the time.  I live in western Massachusetts.

Last summer my DD helped me with OneClickdigital on my Iphone.  Through the Library of Kansas I am able to download books on my phone and enjoy  hearing them at my leisure.  Our local public library had all of the information.  It is a wonderful service, costs nothing and keeping track of  returning library books is over.  (Of course I still go to a couple of libraries, read books and have to return them in a timely manor. . .)

I love the Audible commercials which appear on PBS apps during Masterpiece presentations!

I use Audible but I don't have a membership; I don't get enough audio books for a membership to make sense. I just buy the books I want & they have been inexpensive so far.

tRe: Audible or audio books?

I have been a member of Audible.com for a few years.  I do a combination of audio books and reading the books on my Kindle.  I always get my book group books on Audible.com.  I listen in the car, my morning walk, at the gym.  I do sometimes get more out of the book when I listen as the actor reading the book does character development etc.  Audio books allows me to multi task while listening.
