Asking recs for scarry books for the seasonšŸ‘»

I've read most of Stephen King and authors like that.  Anyone have any obscure reads like that?  Not slasher bloody stuff, just good old spooky. I remember a shory story by Roald Dahl about children ghosts. Can't think of the title.

If you haven't read them yet, @MoJoV , I highly recommend Dean Koontz's series about a new character, Jane Hawk.

The first one is called The Silent Corner.

It's not strict horror if you are used to thinking of Dean Koontz in this genre, but a scary and chilling first novel of the saga of an exceptionally strong woman to find the truth about why respected, happy, and ā€œnormalā€ people are committing suicide.
It can be read alone (but Iā€™ve already pre-ordered #5 in the series).

An oldie but goodie, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

The old black and white movie, The Haunting of Hill House is still the scariest movie I have ever watched!  Have the DVD and watch it every October.

@4kitties  I agree about "The Haunting" not the remake but the first one.  Terrifying. Netflix did a series of it,too. That was scary also.

The Exorcist was a scary book.  There was another I read years ago..lI think the name was Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon...it was quite scary!

Edgar Allen Poe's stories. They fit in with the Halloween season.
