Katherine Center's What You Wish For was a good read but not as good as her others I've read so far.

THE KITCHEN HOUSE by Kathleen Grissom.  Lately, I have been listening to books, rather than reading.  The story and characters kept me interested.  I will probably seek out the sequel.

Next up is Anne Tyler's A SPOOL OF BLUE THREAD.

I read THE KITCHEN HOUSE a few years ago and remember liking it.  I just finished the newest book by the same author - CROW MARY and enjoyed that too. It's about a Crow native who marries a white fur trader.  It's fiction but based on the real life of Crow Mary.

I just wrapped up Tombstone Courage by J.A. Jance. I rated the book 3/5 on Goodreads. Which meant that I liked it.

I have had a lot of distractions these last few weeks so that could be why I rated the book as I did.

I do plan on continuing the series.

Re: AUGUST 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I read The Only One Left by Riley Sager.  This is a Gothic chiller about a young caregiver assigned to work for a woman accused of a Lizzie Borden-like massacre decades earlier.  The setting is a crumbling mansion high above the Maine coast. The book was very intriguing in the beginning, then it bogged down a little, and then WOW.  The last third of the book has twist, upon twist, upon twist.  This author has been hit or miss with me but this turned out to be a fun read.   Don't try to analyze it too much.

[ Edited ]

By Her Own Design, a novel of Ann Lowe, Fashion Designer to the Social Register, by Piper Huguley;

Historical fiction of the hard life of a young 12 year old girl in Alabama who has doors opened for her to become the woman who designed and made the wedding gown of Jackie Kennedy in 1953. This book begins from her humble beginning sitting with her grandmother, a former slave and her mother working tirelessly everyday to create and sew for the white women of Alabama.  This sewing includes creations for the wife of the Governor of Alabama.

Through her hard work Ann is bestowed an education from one of the families she creates for to attend a design school in New York.  From this school where she was only allowed to sit in a cloak room away from the other students she finds herself included as one of the vendor's in The Social Register.  Gowns for the upper crust to Olivia de Havilland to the First Lady of the United States.  Always sought after but never acknowledged.

Please read the acknowledgment of this book for extra information about this extraordinary woman.

Try "The Darlings" by Hannah McKinnon. It revolves around Cape Cod, a wedding, and family drama. It is beach reading at its best.
