Re: AUGUST 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Melissa Senate's The Love Goddess' Cooking School was a cute chick lit/romance, but not too romcom for me.

@teganslaw ,  "The Paris Wife"  sounds good.  I've always found Hadley to be Hemingway's most appealing wife.  She was treated shabbily by Ernest, who regretted it later.  I couldn't stand some of the other wives ( as if I really knew them, ha ).

Just finished None of This is True, Lisa Jewel.

Have been down with the flu so reading more than normal.  This book was really good.  It didn't grab me at first but as it evolved I was drawn in.

Full of twists and turns.  4.5/5

@CANDLEQUEEN , have you read this one?

Zero Days, by Ruth Ware;  Husband and wife are hired by companies to not only get into their computer systems but into the actual on sight company to see how good a security system they have.  Jack does the on site work and with her husband Gabe in her ear sits at home watching from his computer.  Gabe is the finest of the hackers and as been for many years.  After a job finishes Jack tells Gabe what to order for her for dinner as she is on her way home.  Instead of finding her veggie burger and fries she finds Gabe with his throat slit sitting at his computer where the hard drive as been taken.  Jack is on the run from the police, the murder/cartel and even her dearest of friends.

[ Edited ]

I just wrapped up The Kill Artist by Daniel Silva. I am always on the lookout for new series authors, and this one did not disappoint. Talk about International Intrigue. Through the writings of the author I was able to visit Israel, Paris, Greece, London, New York, and a few others. It tells the story of Gabriel Allon, who is a ruthless Mossad Agent for Israel. He retreats after he looses his family in a personal attack by an international terrorist Tariq. He comes out of retirement when he learns that he can perhaps bring down Tariq. There are also several other interesting characters in this book, that help to bring enjoyment to the reader.

I would rate it 4/5 on Goodreads.

Finished Danielle Steel's Accidental Heroes.  It was not romance-y for a change and a very emotional and serious book.

It might be my last book of August too.

Re: AUGUST 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Finally finished Instinct by James Patterson, it was ok. Not one of his best books to me, but that may be because I picked it up and put it down several times, and I think that didn't help....

Anyway on to my next James Patterson, which happens to be Escape!

I am reading Home Front by Kristin Hannah. I am enjoying this story of a woman helicopter pilot, whose team, the Raptors, is being deployed to Iraq. She enjoys being a member of her military "family," but agonizes over leaving her two children and disillusioned husband. I like the way this character meets different challenges than a male soldier may.

Re: AUGUST 2023 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Wasn't sure if I was going to get an 11th book in for this month but I did since it was a fast read and I finished it in 2 days.

Laguna Beach by Nicola Harrison was a good historical read set in the 1940s.  I have her others on my to read list.
