I can't believe I've never read Anne Tyler's Dinner At The Homesick Restaurant.  It's been out for a long time.  It wasn't as good as her others to me.  I love family books though.

Sounds like a Billie Letts book! (The Honk and Holler Opening Soon).

@Judaline

Read that years ago and can't recall plot.  Just looked it up and no comparison to Anne Tyler's book at all.

Re: AUGUST 2022 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

Thank you, @icezeus , for starting this month's thread. Smiley Happy

I just finished listening to Sugar and Salt by Susan Wiggs

I don't want to give too much away, but I HIGHLY recommend this book.

It dealt with timely current event  issues, hard work ethic, the unfair and discriminatory justice system, racial issues, and so much  more.

I just started listening to Just Look Up by Courtney Walsh .

@Janey2 @apple sauce

I also hope that everything is fine with @CareBears . She is a prolific reader and posts often.

I believe that last year she was having problems with her hands and it was painful to type.

Re: AUGUST 2022 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I'm almost finished reading "A Canticle for Liebowitz" - great read!  It's described as "a post-apocalyptic social science novel" by Wiki. Written in1959 .- could have been written today!

Last week I watched a webinar on Cervantes' "Don Quixote."  I read part of it in high school ... and thought I'd give it another chance - reading it again from a different perspective.

@icezeus  I am here, reading away, and your right my arm is giving me more problem's, the stroke I had sure did a number on me, but what can I do but believe everything happens for a reason and I just have to have faith that things will work out fine!

I just finished Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah, Omg this was a good book. Ripped my heart out and brought bouts of tears, that just flowing!  To sum it up:  A child runs out of the woods with a wolf pup looking like a wild child.  She is taken under a doctors' care who herself holds a sketchy past,  Under the doctors; care, the child learns to speak, use utensils while she eats, is potty trained, and starts trusting again.  They learn together to become a family, and let others in!.

@CareBears

I am sorry to hear that your arm is giving you problems, but I am glad that you are still here. :-)

Re: AUGUST 2022 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I am reading "Carnegie's Maid" by Marie Benedict.

It's like Civil War Era Downton Abbey or Upstairs Downstairs, in Pittsburgh.

The story moves at a good clip and the book has short chapters which i like.  Sounds silly but I like being able to read a quick chapter here and there.  Makes it so much easier to put down and pick back up.
