I finished listening to JAMES by Percival Everett. As commented above, this is a retelling of the Huck Finn story, but told from the viewpoint of the slave, Jim. I'm embarassed to say that I never read Mark Twain's classic. I enjoyed the book and could understand why the source material is so beloved. However, I was less fond of the ending chapters - they felt a rushed and a little expected.
I'm currently listening to a novel that received a negative review from a previous poster...and they were not wrong. But, is a series and I'm invested. Sigh.

@pateacher "The Women" is a great book. One of the best I've read in a long time. I'm a big fan of Kristin Hannah and have read every book she's ever written.

I'm still in the process of reading "Ellen Joy" series. I finished Cliffside Point, Camden Cove and now just started reading the "Blueberry Bay" series.
These are clean feel good stories, easy reads. Just what I need in my life right now.
Bookbub has several of them for free.

Finished Lauren Weisberger's The Singles Games which was a good chick lit book about a 25 year old pro tennis player.

I have finished Instinct by James Patterson and Howard Roughan. It was a different sort of team. Dr. Dylan Reinhart a renowned expert and Ivy League professor on criminal behavior. He is paired with Elizabeth an NYPD detective to catch a serial killer. Like most James Patterson books, I thought there would be chemistry between these two but nope. The doctor is actually married to another man. I have to be honest, it caused me to pause. I decided to keep reading, and I truly felt that his marriage never detracted from the book, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I will now be moving on to House Justice by Mike Lawson.

I read Listen For The Lie by Amy Tintera, that centers on a true crime podcast. Apparently the author normally writes YA books, and this is what it seemed like to me, except she tried to make it more adult by having everyone in this town have s e x with everyone else in the town. I think it was supposed to be funny, and despite the good reviews, it struck me as juvenile.

I just finished Tracey Lange's second book The Connellys of County Down. I liked it better than We Were The Brennans. It was a fast two day read for me.

I finished listening to FINLAY DONOVAN ROLLS THE DICE by Elle Cosimano. Someone previously gave this a well deserved negative review. Perhaps it's the narrator, but I really dislike the love interest - the "hot cop" comes across as very phony; the relationship doesn't work for me. I much prefer the scenes with Finlay and her nanny/accountant. Heck, I actually prefer the scenes with her scummy ex-husband. The story doesn't stand alone (is the 4th in a series) and is just too silly. Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll read the next in the series.
Moving on to a light romantic comedy. So far, so good.

Just finished listening to The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey by Candice Millard this evening. What a journey! Thank you to the Book Club poster that reviewed and recommended the book last year.
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version. At times, I felt like I was right there in the jungle. The author included so much detail based on participant's journals and historical accounts. Additionally, the flora, fauna, and cultural aspects surrounding the quest were covered.
At this point, I'm ready to get off the river for awhile, but recently learned of another book called Amazon Woman by Darcy Gaetcher. This young woman on her 35th birthday started a 100+ day journey down the Amazon in a kayak. That would be quite a juxtaposition from Teddy Roosevelt's journey over 100 years ago.
Happy Reading All!
