Welcome to December

Hello my LCNY Fashionistas. Welcome to December and the holiday rush. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as the Davies clan did. This was the first year it was just me and my children. My parents travelled to my sisters and my brother was at home with his crowd. As the family is growing with marriages and in-laws change is in the air. I have decided to live in the moment and to be thankful for the times I can have them all under one roof. I must say my married daughters do a great job of spreading their time with both sidesSmiley Happy.

This past weekend our thankfulness turned into an early Christmas present.  I asked my Mom if I could share her story and she decided "knowledge is power". My Mom fell at my sisters coming down the stairs in her socks. She remembers taking the last step and stepping on the wood floor in the foyer. She slipped and fell very hard hitting her head.  She did not lose consciousness or have any symptoms - just a big old egg on her head.  A lot of ice and teasing that my sisters floors were TOO CLEAN soon followed.  Everything was fine ... so we thought.

My parents went to NYC for the day with friends. Travelled the following day to a show in Lancaster......she was fine. Fortunately I, who talk too much, told my dear friend about my mother's fall. She told me my Mom needed to be checked out, because she knew of someone with a similar injury who ended up with a brain bleed. What!!??!! I convinced my Mom and Dad that she needed to be checked. On Thursday, her family doctor felt she had a mild concussion, since she continued to have a bit of a headache......nothing that Tylenol did not clear up. He ordered a CT SCAN the next day.

On Friday I got off the air after the morning show and went to be with my Mom for the scan. I decided to surprise her. Boy, did I get the surprise of my life. I walked in and they were wheeling her out in an ambulance. The CT SCAN showed a brain bleed. Very serious. She went from one hospital close by to a trauma 1 in Philadelphia. She is home now relaxing. She has been grounded for 2 weeks. WE are extremely lucky, blessed and thankful. This could have gone another way. Many who hit their heads and get a brain bleed do not wake up. I asked the neurosurgeon what we should have done. He said since she really had no symptoms that was a hard call to make. His rule of thumb is .....

when in doubt check it out.

So with these weeks leading up to Christmas.....my unwrapped presents can wait, my cards will eventually get mailed, my outside lights will be put up.....I am just enjoying each and every moment. The lunches, the parties, the time with family and friends. That is where my heart is this holiday season.
