The 'Warmth' of February in Minnesota

Author Thomas Wolfe once declared, "You can never go Home Again.”  It's obvious to me the guy didn't grow up in New Ulm, MN.

New Ulm is a small town, population 13,000. Though I've lived for many years on both the East Coast and West Coast, for my wife Amy and I, going back to Minnesota...means going Home.

I recently had the chance to hop on a plane (a solo trip), and head back for a few days.   Although the temperatures were in the low single digits, there ain't nothin' like a hug from your mom to warm you back up again!

I also spent a 'lively' evening with old buddies.  There's Ozzy and Patty (high school sweethearts  and still married), Tom the class clown, Joe, Dave, and Lisa; now a prominent MN Lawyer.  They're my 'friends for life' gang, most of whom I've known since fourth grade!!  We played Sports together, watched each other get married and have kids, and now... We're getting old together!

But it was the visit with Mom that mattered most.

My dad has been gone for 10 years now (they were happily married for 61 years), and she still misses him every day.

But at 90, she’s doing so well, (and maybe I'm biased, but she's the prettiest lady at the Assisted Living Facility)! During a frigid February in Minnesota, she's always smiling, listening to others, and spending her days warming other people's hearts.

Including mine.

Love you Mom!
