THEY ARRIVED – ALL EIGHT OF THEM!

I am so excited to give you an update on our Mallard Mother and her EIGHT babies – yes eight.  We came in last week to the sounds of chirping and there were the cutest little chicks.

After a lot of “oohs” and “aahs” we went out and purchased a kiddie pool and duckling pellet food (like I’ve said before, we are all about comfortable outdoor living.) In my last message about the ducklings, I was wondering if I should take the family to my farm where they would have other duck friends and a large pond to enjoy.  Turns out Mother Mallard had her own plan and after two days in our patio area, our little friends followed their Mom to another “home.”   Well it also turns out that two of the ducklings had their own plan too and did not follow Mom.  We spent hours driving around to find where the Mother had gone – all of the parks and especially any areas with ponds, but could not find them.

I felt so sad for our two little guys, but not for too long.  We moved them over to our empty chicken coop on the property aside Valley Forge Flowers.  This “coop” is about 10x6ft, complete with a brand new house and completely fenced in – think duck mansion with a little pool.  My son Kyle who is their “Den Mother” has them on a diet of Chick Starter Crumbles and little bits of mashed apples – which they go nuts for!

Now that we know the little guys are thriving on their own, and that Mother Mallard is not coming back, we plan to bring the guys to the farm.  We have the perfect surrogate moms at our pond and quite a few duck friends to keep them happy and safe.

My thanks to everyone for all of your kind messages.  It was wonderful to see how many people love nature too and were as excited as we were to witness such a special experience.
