Shoot Like a Pro! Photography Made Easy

by on ‎10-25-2011 12:05 PM

Hey guys, it’s program host Dave James with a brand-new blog. This is going to be the landing space for all aspects of photography. From cameras to picture frames, we're going to cover it all. I've been pursuing this art form my entire life and have recently "turned pro." But it took years of learning and practicing to get to this position. Now that I'm here, I'm having a blast. I've shot many of your favorite QVC hosts, guests, and models. I also was recently commissioned to photograph my first book cover. I have to admit, it's pretty darn cool seeing your artwork on a book cover.

BTW, that brings me to the whole point of this blog. We're going to focus on the “art” of photography. I hope that after following the tips I post here, you'll transition from taking "snapshots" to taking "photographs." What’s the difference, you may ask? Well, snapshots are what I call "mental bookmarks." These are pics snapped without care or thought of a subject, like kids at a birthday party. The only reason for snapping the pic is to capture the moment and use it as a memory jogger. In most cases, you'll see this snapshot photographer taking very random pics of everything with no consideration of the quality of the pictures taken. I know all about this guy…it used to be me. Then I started to apply a few tips and tricks to better my photography that I learned in college and from other pros. Now instead of taking hundreds of boring pics, I take many more "good" photos. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I take plenty of stinkers, but with the tips I'm going to share with you in this blog, hopefully you'll hit the “Save” button more than the “Delete” button on your camera. No matter what kind of camera you use, from cell phone to DSLR, the tips I'll be posting are universal in application. You can check out my work on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/photosbydavidjames.

Coming up in the next blog, I'll be posting the best tips for capturing holiday pictures.

Happy shooting!
