Paris: Always a Good Idea

As the effortless beauty Audrey Hepburn once said, “Paris is always a good idea.” It’s a city of love, art, fashion, and where my career as a model began. I’ve always had a love affair with Paris; I remember when I first fell for the city of lights. I was a freshman in college studying biology with dreams of becoming a medical researcher or doctor until one day I was scouted by a modeling agent and my whole world changed! My first test shoot was sent to an agency in Paris, it was the summer right after my first year of college. I was coaching a high school dance team at the time, we were right in the middle of practice when I got a call from my agent, "Christian Dior and Prada want to see you, will you fly to Paris for fashion week?" I didn't admit it at the time, but I had no clue who or what she was talking about. I ran to the grocery store and picked up my first issue of Vogue Magazine to find out.  Within a month, I deferred my enrollment to UCSD and was on a plane to Paris.  The day I landed I met John Galliano, wearing Rainbow flip flops and jean shorts. He immediately cast me for his Christian Dior show, I got very lucky to say the least. That first show was what sparked my passion for beauty. I lived in Paris for a year, it's where I met many of my best friends and fell in love with French bakeries, high heels, and beauty! I admired the effortless, undone look of the Parisian women- their perfectly glowing skin, tousled hair and of course their classic red lips.

So it was only fitting that when Wander Beauty launched its first destination inspired collection, that it capture the spirit of the city where I started my career 10 years ago. Rosy cheeks, subtle smokey eyes, natural highlights, and classic red lips. This is what I think about when I picture the classic Parisian woman and this is what I set out to capture in our collection of four products.

Our Paris Collection reminds me of my many adventures and memories, and all of the places that make it such an exciting destination for me. So I thought I’d share some of my favorite landmarks I love to visit when I find myself in Paris.

Eiffel Tower

There is nothing quite like the Eiffel Tower lit up at night. It illuminates the city with a romantic sparkle and sweeps a natural calm over you as you take in the stunning views from above. It’s so romantic and truly an experience of a lifetime.

Gardens:

I love visiting all of the gardens especially the Tuileries Garden for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The vast green gardens filled with flowers of all hues is the perfect place to enjoy a fresh croissant, coffee, and some light reading (some of my favorite French magazines of course.)

Boulangerie’s

Who could resist the smell of a bakery early in the morning. Fresh almond croissants, macarons, baguettes, and berry tarts - these sweet treats really sum up the fresh, sweet flavors found in the city.

Cafe Ruc near the Louvre

Cafe Ruc is one of my favorite restaurants to visit. Located right near the Louvre, it’s the perfect place to grab a bite, or just a delicious Nutella crepe, after a day of museums or city explorings. You immediately feel like you’re transported into an old french film with the rich red and gold interior.

L’entrecote

When in Paris, eat as the Parisians do. L’entrecote is the ultimate sophisticated and elegant bistro. Get there early because reservations are not allowed, I would only stand in long lines for this delicious dinner!  With just one meal offering - a walnut salad followed by a tender steak, homemade french fries, and a famous secret sauce - you’ll be coming back for years!

I'm so excited to announce my first one hour show will be this Tuesday the 8th at 2pm ET with Mary Beth Roe! I'll be revealing all of Wander Beauty's newest multitasking makeup essentials and my inspiration behind each product. I hope everyone is enjoying a fun and restful long weekend.
