A: This is a handheld scanner and it has a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery included.
Q: Do I need to have a computer to use this?
A: No.
Q: What size photos can you scan?
A: Up to 8.5” x 14”.
Q: How quickly can you scan photos?
A: 300 dpi mode in 5-6 seconds; 600 dpi mode in less than 10 seconds.
Q: Can you scan Polaroid photos?
A: Yes, but close contact and a flat surface are required.
Q: Can you scan framed photographs?
A: Yes, but the glass may cause glare.
Q: Can slides be scanned?
A: No.

Q: How will I know when the memory card is full?
A: An error message will indicate low or no memory on the SD card.
Q: If I scan five pictures on a page, can I separate them to print them individually?
A: Yes. You’ll need to use MS Paint or other software to crop the specific pictures you wish to print.
Q: If I scan something small, do I have to crop each picture to remove the white space around the picture?
A: Yes. The Pandigital Wand Scanner does not auto-crop. If you scan something small and do not wish to see the background surface, you’ll need to crop the file using MS Paint or other software.
Q: Does this Wand Scanner work on a Mac?
A: Yes, it’s compatible with Mac OS 10.5 & above and allows you to transfer images to your Mac via USB. (Note: that the bonus Presto! PageManager software is not Mac compatible.)
Q: I understand that the scanner can save a document as a PDF. Do I need PDF software to see the saved PDF file?
A: Yes. To view the PDF files, you will need Adobe’s Reader software. You can find this software at get.adobe.com/reader.
Q: Can I use regular batteries if the included rechargeable batteries aren’t charged?
A: No. The rechargeable battery is a special battery pack that provides extended performance. This Wand Scanner does not use AA or AAA batteries.
Q: If I scan text, can I then edit the text?
A: Yes. The Wand Scanner’s resolutions are more than adequate for successful OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which will turn the scanned image into text and allows you to edit it. Also, the bonus Presto! PageManager software (PC only) includes an OCR function.
Q: Can I scan a multiple-page document with the wand?
A: Yes. The Wand Scanner design is especially great for scanning bound books or other items that can’t be fed through a roller-fed scanner. When scanning multiple pages, follow this process for each successive page: First, simply press the scan button. Then, roll the scanner across the page. Lastly, press the scan button again when done. It’s that easy!
Q: Will the wand scratch delicate surfaces?
A: No. The Pandigital Wand Scanner is designed with four sets of rollers. Each roller has a soft rubber surface and will help you to avoid such concerns.
Q: What is the largest SD card I can use with this scanner?
A: The Pandigital Wand Scanner accepts microSD memory cards storing up to 32GB.
Q: If I change the speed while scanning, will the picture be distorted?
A: No, your speed can vary. As you scan, the LCD will show your speed. As long as you maintain a speed between SP0 and SP2, you will be fine. For best quality, it is recommended that you try to stay at SP0.
Q: Can I you scan a computer screen?
A: Not very well. In my tests on different LCD screens, you can make out the screen image. However, the interference of the light from the backlit LCD, combined with the scanners own light potentially reflecting off the monitor, results in a scanned image that’s not very useable.
Q: How many pictures can the included microSD card hold?
A: This Pandigital Wand Scanner includes a 2GB microSD memory card. Based on 8-1/2” x 14” photo scan, this card will hold up to the following:
- 300 dpi (4+ MP equivalent): Up to 3,500 pictures for 2GB of storage with an average size of 500KB per photo.
- 600 dpi (8+ MP equivalent): Up to 1,000 pictures for 2GB storage with an average size of 1.75MB per photo.
With a larger memory card (up to 32GB compatible), you could multiply using the above 2GB figures to get an idea of the thousands of scans you might store before needing to off-load to your computer.
