New York Fashion Week: A Stylists' Perspective

by ‎02-18-2016 02:01 PM - edited ‎02-18-2016 02:18 PM

It’s Monday, February 15th, and the clock strikes 9pm. We're in the middle of a live broadcast of Fashion's Night In from New York Fashion Week, from a studio in Times Sqaure. The models enter backstage, hair and makeup complete and ready to change into their first looks. Months of planning, researching inspiration, ordering samples, meeting with designers, assembling looks, meetings, and more meetings, it all boils down to the next one hundred and twenty minutes. It is in these exact moments that I am reminded of how much I love what I do.

There is no greater thrill for a stylist than to see their looks “come to life”. And with a show broadcasting live from New York with all new product, the adrenaline rush is even greater. Adding the right jewelry, the perfect handbag, and the killer shoe felt like even more of a priority than ever.

When all 8 models were ready for the opening, I quickly ran to set to see what it would look like. I felt like a proud parent. We say from time to time around QVC that “it takes a village” and in that exact moment I thought of all the people it took to make that exact moment happen.

The next two hours were filled with chaos, excitement, stress and satisfaction. You have to be quick to make last minute decisions and have a quick attention to detail.

The show was a success and a great project to be a part of. The bond that has formed with our PM STYLE crew has grown even greater. And with a two hour show filled with new spring styles, I couldn’t wait to head back to Studio Park to think spring!

But first things first…

Off to New York Fashion Week for Dennis Basso’s runway show. I had the opportunity of going back stage to see some of his gorgeous pieces prior to the show & I couldn’t wait to share my experience with you!
