My Wedding Dress Story

by on ‎06-30-2016 08:00 AM

I never thought it was right that you’re wedding took up all of about five hours of your life. Sure, with the planning and the pampering it was a lengthy process but the actual event, one of the best moments of your life, was over in minutes.  Hubby and I couldn’t have that so we lengthened our nuptials a bit.  We stand by our belief that our wedding was one of the best in history (okay were biased but ask anyone who was there and they will say the same.) We made it a weeklong event in Puerto Vallarta where our guests were treated to nightly happy hours, a welcome reception dinner on the beach, the rehearsal dinner and then the actual wedding.

We all stayed at the same resort, and most of us even flew on the same plane. It was a week surrounded by the people I loved the most in a place I consider paradise.  The attire for the week was a big deal for me as you can imagine and I had a new outfit for every evening. In the theme of wedding season I thought I would share two of the most important pieces in my trousseau, and how they continue to live on thirteen years later.

My mom was a beautiful hippie and though I loved her wedding dress it wasn’t quite my style for the wedding itself.  That being said it was perfect for a Mexican rehearsal dinner.  I took the empire waist, high necked, long sleeve dress and had a seamstress create a two-piece.  We left the long sleeves because the floral embroidery was so gorgeous, but we created slits along the back of the arms to open them up a bit.  I still wear both the skirt and the crop top. Being aware of the trends these days I can almost guarantee my daughters will too.

My wedding dress was a simple silk strapless, that hugged my curves, and me feel like a princess.  There was no way I could wear that for only a few hours of my life.  So I had it cut short and wore it as a cocktail dress for years after. We put a black appliqué of flowers in the right spots (covering a tequila stain in one case ha!) and it was gorgeous.  I do still have that dress in box, however it has been worn to the ground!  One day my girls will see it and be able to tell just how much fun and love was had in that dress.

There are other parts of our wedding that still live on in our lives.  I bought the stationary from our invitations in bulk and I still have the pretty blue paper all these moves later.  In fact Grace just wrote some thank you cards out of it!  But the dresses are what really make me the happiest, other than the groom of course. He’s undeniably the best thing to come out of that, too short, week of my life.

Happy Wedding season!!!
