My Trip to the Zoo

by on ‎06-24-2015 01:40 PM

There's nothing I enjoy more than exploring fun local attractions when the weather is beautiful, like it's been lately. My daughter Nikki is on break from college, so we decided it was the perfect time to enjoy some mother-daughter time at the Philadelphia Zoo…I took some pictures I wanted to share with you all!

Our first visit together was many years ago, so it was such a fun walk down memory lane repeating the trip with her...

The Philadelphia Zoo is not your everyday zoo…it was actually the first zoo in the United States! It opened in 1859 with 1,000 animals, and admission cost only a quarter! Today it is home to 1,300 animals, many of which are rare and endangered.

We were greeted by amazing artwork at the zoo entrance.

Many things about this zoo has changed over the years…but one thing remains the same. It's still a wonderful place to escape and peer into the world of beautiful animals! Nikki and I spent the day laughing at their antics…

Considering it is the Year of the Gorilla at the zoo, I think this orangutan stole the show with a bucket on his head!! Smiley Happy

We were completely amazed by the size of the tortoises!

Love the zebras…"Toni" the hippo was chasing them before I took this shot!

As we stopped for lunch, a peacock proudly displayed his plume of feathers...amazing!

It was wonderful to see the focus on education…there were exhibits about recycling, a campaign to protect endangered species from deforestation, and more. We learned a lot!

I couldn't help but wonder, as I looked at the animals with their babies, if they realized how fast time goes with your children. My baby is now a beautiful young woman…but she'll always be my baby. Smiley Happy I cherish my time with her at any age!!

It was a great day that ended with us buying our tradition of a Christmas decoration for our tree so that we could remember our adventure together. I hope to share more of my summer adventures with you…please feel free to share yours too. I hope you have a chance to make great memories this summer!

All the best,

Pat
