My Love Affair with Fall

by ‎10-15-2015 05:18 PM - edited ‎10-15-2015 05:40 PM

For this week’s PM Style blog, I’ve fallen for Fall. This is not a new love affair, Ive had it my whole life, ever since I lived in Michigan as a kid. We used to go to the Franklin Cider Mill, on a crisp weekend afternoon, jockey for parking, and then stand in long lines to eat fresh, warm, sugared donuts that you could watch being made and whose smell was pure ecstasy. Then we would buy a gallon of fresh cider, grab paper cups, and go sit by the pond watching ducks, chasing ducks trying to feed ducks. I love to get drunk on the flavors of Fall.

This week, I’m sharing my top ten reasons I LOVE fall…feel free to chime in.

  1. This infamous aisle at every drug and grocery store. (What’s your favorite halloween candy? Mine, mini snickers.)

  1. Burning harvest scented candles, these are Cheerful Giver from QVC. I close my eyes and the waft of pumpkin and cinnamon bring back so many memories.

  1. Turning the heat on, because the air outside has dropped to a crispy chill, not cold enough to make you shiver, but fresh enough to wear a sweater and order a hearty soup for lunch on a Saturday.

  1. Speaking of soup, ugh, this magical, “touched by an angel” broth my friend Erika made me this week while I was sick. The absolute most insanely delicious chicken soup I have ever eaten…so ‘feel good’ Fall. Fall = soup, people! (PS: you have asked for the recipe on FB and Instagram. Erika is mulling whether she is willing to divulge the secrets to her heavenly liquid. Standby…)

  1. Duraflame logs. What a memory from growing up in the 70’s and buying them. The minute they pop up in stores means fireplace season has begun.

  1. Pumpkin spice coffee. The End. Why does Wawa only serve this in Fall? I want this available, year round. Let’s start a petition!

  1. Tombstone Peeps. C’mon, could anything be cuter? (I particularly love how the package promotes that they are gluten and fat free. Ha.)

  1. Gingerbread Man Philosophy 3-in-1 shower gel. Another favorite that should not just be available in Fall. I already ordered 3 this week. My favorite 3-in-1 they make. (No, it doesn’t make you smell like a cookie. Think refreshing ginger ale.)

  1. Leaves that turn extraordinary colors of neon orange. I envision driving down a country lane surrounded by trees of glory and the smells of hickory in the air. Stumbling on a barn sale, and a little country cottage for a late lunch. Feels like a scene from a movie in New England.

  1. Christmas shopping…because if it’s Fall, Christmas is next. And I love buying, and brainstorming gifts. I love giving gifts. I love decorating for the season. I love planning who is coming to stay for the holidays, and getting ready for that glorious Thanksgiving day when in jammies, you cook and get ready for the binge of all binges on dishes that take you back to childhood. And then the Christmas specials start. Oh wait, first there are the fun Disney Halloween movies (those are about as spooky as i can handle) and not long from now, the 24/7 Christmas radio will start.

…and here’s one more bonus reason, I love cloudy Fall days. I’m an old soul and I love cloudy, chilly, even rainy days, they give you permission to be quiet. Think. Stay home. Cocoon.

Ok, I’m done waxing philosophical about Fall. Gotta take my meds. Finally went to doc to get some good drugs to treat the laryngitis and couch and nose and…I needn’t outline my symptoms, you get the idea. My feet are up, TV is on, clouds have rolled in, and it’s my day off. I’m am happy, peaceful, relaxed, and on the mend.
