My Home in Pennsylvania

Home DD 1.jpg

Ten years ago I bought a spectacular track of land in Chester County, Pennsylvania. After living in New York City my entire adult life, I knew I needed a break from the “big city” and decided to build my dream house. While I will always keep my place in NYC, my heart resides on 5+ acres of wooded land in a lovely rural setting.

Beech House was designed by Koko Architecture of New York City. They are the architects who designed the Joan Rivers New York headquarters and my NYC loft.

As you can see from the pictures, it is a very modern, clean design that celebrates nature above all else. I wanted a house that would bring the beautiful outdoors inside.

All four seasons are a treat at Beech House. With so much glass, the outdoors is always in view.

What first drew me to the property was the abundance of amazing specimen trees scattered throughout the grounds. Hemlocks, tulip poplars, maples, spruce, weeping cherry and very mature beech trees of several varieties. American, copper, weeping European, tricolor beeches dot the grounds. Home DD 20.jpg

The beech trees are so magnificent (the weeping beech in particular, I’ve been told rivals similar specimens at Longwood Gardens, the former DuPont estate!) that we named the property Beech House, in a play on words.

The pool house is a smaller glass box that lights from within at night like a lantern. Great for night time swimming

Large stones found on the property make great side tables by the pool area!

Winter and Spring. The stream area at the foot of the property is filled with birds, frogs, fish and the occasional raccoon.

The house has been featured in several design magazines, including Elle Décor and was the cover story for International Architecture and Design.

Building the house was a labor of love. I always look forward to long weekends there with friends and family.

It’s a casual, feet up on the furniture kind of house, that always feels right filled with people! (Roscoe sure thinks so!!)

And it’s a great place for my boy Roscoe to run, chase rabbits and bark at deer!

And I can’t forget our next door neighbors!

I enjoyed sharing my home with all of you. See you on QVC!

OMG!  I knew when I saw little pictures in the past of your home I would love it, but now that I see the whole thing I can't believe how perfect it is, in all ways.  The house, the land, it is all just too fantastic for words.  Like the other person said I could move in in a heart beat and not change a thing!  I didn't think I was too big on modern, but the nature you let in in your home is magnificent.  It is truly gorgeous in all ways.  You enjoy it you have done good!  Love your taste, even with your dog.ha

As I'd mentioned in a previous post about your beatiful home, my uncle was a well known architect on the west and east coasts, and would have loved the design of your home. I do too David...it's just stunning.

Thank you very much David for sharing pictures of your lovely home!  Yes, you are truly blessed to be able to build your dream home.  I bet Roscoe prefers the country home where he can run around and be free to do what dogs love to do in the outdoors.  I'm curious about all the glass, they must be specially treated to keep the freezing cold (during winter) out.

Hi David,

You and your stately home made me homesick for Chester County, Pa. that my husband, my children, and I left in the early 80's.  Many states and countries later I still miss the beauty of the land, the animals, the properties, and the people.  I wish you joy and happiness in your exquisite home.  Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
